I have about £200.00

As above guys I have £200.00 for a new GFX card. I have been looking at some 470GTX's but have also been pondering over a HD6870 (XFX do a black edition)

I play EQ2 and WOW and will be looking at some later games to play.

Here is my current set up.

Storm Scout Case
Corsair 650hx psu
Asus deluxe main board
AMD 3.4 quad core AM3
4 Gb ram may push to 6
Currently a W/D 500GB 32MB cache hd but will upgrade to a SSD

I cant push for a 480/580GTX or HD5970 so it is between the 470 and 6970.

That 5850 is very good for the money, should clock comfortably to beat the 470 and 6870 in most things.

At stock though the 470 would be the most powerful of the cards listed.

Overclock it to 820~850MHz and you will have a card faster than a stock speed GTX480.

I have yet to see anyone who can't overclock their GTX470 to beyond 800MHz, and considering the MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr II has a better cooler than reference card, I don't see it is likely that you would get a lesser overclock.

You probably need to have a look around for the settings and voltage you should use for overclocking.

I like my 470, i only got a moderate OC on it, 700 mhz but it's a good card and many are running 750 to 800 mhz

750mhz on my two on stock volts, tbh they dont even need the overclock, run everything fine at stock. But they dont run any hotter so its nice to have a bit of headroom for later games.

Get the 470 and overclock it.

Is your CPU at stock? I'm assuming it's the Phenom II X4 965, if it is, maybe get a nice CPU cooler and overclock it to around 3.8ghz?

With your budget maybe hold, wouldnt normally say this, but with ati trying to get the 6900s out (hopefully) before christmas, you might see some really aggressive pricing from both parties trying to win the christmas buys- ati wont want nvidia to win back market share now.

However you would run the risk of missing the 470 at such a brilliant price.
