Morning all,

I'm going to have to bite the bullet. My Samsung LE40F71 died in May and I'm getting tired of waiting for the parts now (the retailer apparently is above the SoGA, so I'm in the market for a new TV. The issue being, it's not really an area I keep up with. Can anyone point me towards a quality TV (that may last longer than three years!) fulfilling the spec below?

We only have space for a 40" TV, and the only real requirements that I have are that it's 1080p (which I suspect all new 40" tellys are anyway) and that it can output 100Hz (or higher). The TV is mainly used for gaming, but we watch a lot of films on Blu-Ray too.
Freeview/freesat tuners are a non priority, as we watch so little TV that we onlyuse iPlayer, and have no aerial or TV licence

Budget is £6-700 I suppose, no particular brand preferred, can anyone help?

Cheers,

Apop*

Unfortunately it's mere millimetres too wide :( To clarify, we have a built in TV cabinet, the front aperture is 1025mm x 698 mm. It would probably *just* fit, but there would be very little margin for error, not to mention ventilation. Thankyou though!

Shame. If it's anything like my 46'' G10 in quality you would be amazed. Brilliant stuff.

It looks very attractive I must admit. I'm considering modifying the cabinet, but I'd still be concerned over rear ventilation, how hot do these plasmas get? Particularly in comparison to a 4 year old LCD?

/edit - Hmmmm.... I may be able to add an 'exhaust' to the cabinet, exhausting hot air into the (sealed) chimney space. /ponders

Been asking the same question (not literally) myself for a few weeks.
Haven't had a TV in my bedroom since Terrestrial was switched off... Have been looking around and can't quite understand why the
Panasonic TX-L37G20B is £20 more expensive than the Panasonic TX-P42G20B!
I am assuming they are exactly the same TV, just different sizes. Anyone know what the L and the P stand for?

Will be following this :)

I'm 99% sure that the L means it is an LCD television, whilst the P means it is a Plasma television. LCD televisions are generally a bit more expensive than Plasma televisions (the difference becomes larger as the screen size increases), hence the L37 costs a little bit more than the P42.

Curiosly, after six months of waiting, Samsung have (completely out of the blue!) just agreed to replace the broken TV with an LE40C580 FOC. Now, we have the money to buy the Bravia EX503, and 100Hz is something that we think we would see the benefit of. New question : Would I be wasting my money selling the C580 and upgrading to an EX503 anyway?

The few reviews I've seen seem to praise the C580, but.... I want an upgrade :p

personally i will never buy a Samsung tv again after the psu died on the last one just after my warranty expired, so i would sell it and get the Sony

This is my thought, given that it's taken six months for them to admit responsibility. The Sony it is then, now to convince the missus :p
