hi last nite in my (now) ex's drunken rage because i have been playing to much black ops accordidng to her se decided to pour half a pint of sweet white wine all over the top of my pc is sig and as it being the RV01 case which all the componants a are vertical with a massive vent at the top it didnt not go to well (just acted as a big funnel) :(

as it crashed a second later i got what looked like memory BSOD:mad: then i turned it off at the mains sharpish then after i threw her out i took all the rig apart the mobo looked okay quite a lot off splash on the water block and a bit round the cpu socket and vrm i was wondering if i would be able to salvage the cpu and possible the mobo as for thr ram i think this is defo dead as i took it of wine was dripping from the heat sinks on them they are the ocz reapers both gpu's look fine front and back but all the wine would have gone down the heat exshast hope fully this might be ok ?

i was wondering what would be the best course of action as i was thinking .....

1. leave all the componants to dry out and put them back together all stick with dry wine on them and hopefully it might work

Q. if i done this could his cause more damage or would i cause more damage cleaning it ?

2. get all the parts a new soft tooth brush aqua pure non condustive water and clean all the parts and scrub them like new clean the heat sinks as the dust and sticky wine might not work so well together and leave thm all to dry and re-apply some tim and fingers crossed it might work

Q. does these seem like a good idea or a huge waste of time and money as there is no hope for any off the componants ??

3.i have a second i7 rig i could test all the parts on and see what works and what doesnt and buy new parts and throw the broke parts away

Q.if i start putting these damaged parts in a working rig damage the working one and ill be left with none ?

any help would be most helpfully i have only just got the other rig working now this goes and happens not happy :(

i'd say leave them to dry, then use cotton buds and pure alcohol to clean the components afterwards, a long process but you dont wanna risk damaging it further

If you could put them somewhere warm they will dry quicker. The motherboard will be the slowest to dry I'd imagine. Strip the whole thing completely and get busy.

Some nice isopropyl alcohol should remove any of the sticky residue and also shift any remaining moisture as it evaporates off.

You might be surprised that it may just work when you put it back together. I think it's worth taking the time. Will be interesting to see if that RAM will work. We've seen soaked parts on here before from WC leaks and they still worked.

lol i know my dads wc leak and it still worked but its special fluid not alcahol lol where can i get some isopropyl alcohol ?

Heard that you can get it from Chemists, although I've never tried. If not then a high street store named similarly to a BBC sitcom based around a holiday camp do a aerosol of it, expensive though as you'd expect from those rip off merchants.

Mine was a gift from work.

Hi.
Not long ago I dropped my cupa into my pc when I was cleaning up the cables (power off). I got 2 cans of PCB cleaner, removed everything, blew off all the tea (what was left) and sprayed it all down, left it to dry for about a week in warm room.
Built it all up and it has been working fine now for the last 8 months without any problems, if you had the power on you may have already done some dammage to it but theres always a good chance it will work

Alan

You can get it here, but you'll probably need a lot more than comes in those tiny bottles. A popular highstreet store with a name that is an anagram of malpin sells IPA in 500ml canisters there ;)

Good luck!

ill have to go out tommorrow and get some and get cleaning do you think they will be dry enuff by tommorrow to clean ? Iam totaly gutted :( i prey to god it still works

how would i clean the memory slots on the mobo any ideas as the 1st slot had a lot off wine on it and the memory modual was soaked ??

I think most of its been covered here but if it was me apart from billing the Ex the full amount for the system.
I would strip the whole system down and get at it with either Kitchen towel or Toilet paper and soak up as much of the wine as possible.
In stripping the system down i would also strip the coolers off your video cards as well.
I would then leave the stripped system in a warm room for a few days to fully dry out.
For cleaning purpose's i would either get Isopropyl Alchol or Electrical Point Cleaning Fluid and a very large tube of Cotton Buds.
Slowly start cleaning it all and one by one test each part in your working system whilst praying.

Edit: Dont forget to send her the bill for any parts that no longer work.
