Morning all,

I'm after 2 front tyres for my wifes corsa. It has continental premium contacts all round at the mo and was wondering if its worth paying the bit extra for these? My only problem is that she drives the same speed whether its raining or dry, so my only requirement is that the tyre must grip well in the wet.

I know its only a small car but is it worth paying extra for premium tyres over budget/mid-range? So which tyres do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Go for the ones with the free umbrella :)

But really: If you love your wife, buy her nice tyres, it's really that simple.

/edit: you have listed 2 pretty high performance cars in your sig, do you skimp on tyres for those? Why would your wifes car be any different?

At this sort of size, the difference between budget and decent brands is minimal, so there's even less of an excuse. They don't need to be high performance tyres, but good quality is important

Last time I looked that particular size was quite expensive. A lot of people change to 195/50/R15 as they're near enough the same radius but cheaper! Might be worth a look in that size?

I wouldn't know, but saying CP2s "aren't worth it on a Corsa" is just stupid.

Then again, can a Corsa get up to the speeds where the additional wet braking performance of the more expensive tyre is needed?

I went budget once.. And only once..Yokohomo S-Drive. My car became so noisy i thought the axel was on the way out.. Cost me an absolute fortune, cos it was 4-new tyres that i had to throw away only after a couple of thousand miles.. Went with the Conti's in the end.. Stick with either Bridgstone, Continental, Michellin and even Dunlop or Pirelli's.. Can't go wrong then.. Personally, i just stick with the OEM's now, since thats where all the development was done on what was best for road noise and economy/ grip.

Kumho's, had a Jeep with a set of those on not all that long ago.. Went to turn a corner in a little bit of rain and thing lost control.. AVOID !

Which Kumho? Had nothing but good results with them. Odd pricing in some sizes, only 7-8 quid a corner from the bottom of the range stuff like KH11 up to the KU31.

Nout wrong with Yoko S.drive, is noise your only complaint?

A Corsa might still have to do an emergency stop on a wet road one day..

...And the Kuhmo's will be absolutely fine :) They are not rubbish ditchfinders now are they? I'm using them on my Impreza and they're fine, I admit that I'm going to want some better tyres for trackdays but for road use they're fine.

Yes noise was my only complaint, but you could also feel it through the entire car.. When i was braking, it really felt grindy. I was convinced since the tires were new that I had issues with the car's axel.. I had the dealer swap the wheels over from a car on the forecourt, that had Conti's. The same day I ordered four new Conti's.
