The other day my 5770 Crossfire rig kept crashing when playing games. We're talking black screen, looping sound for a few seconds. Followed by nothing.. no response from the machine at all.

I removed one card, tested and Card No1 worked fine in 3d & 2d mode playing games.

I then removed Card No1 and installed Card No2, pc booted and browsing the desktop, Internet explorer etc all worked fine. I then tried loading up a game, 10 seconds into the title menu and once the 3dclocks kick in (which are stock!) the screen goes black, I hear sound playing which then stops after 5 seconds.

PC is unrecoverable without a reboot, Does this card sound faulty? I've tried different video drivers incase this is the fault. However.. I've not experianced a card issue like this before! I'm used to a dead card artifacting, or throwing up pink and purple lines all over the screen.

Comments and Opinions required please.. Before one RMAs said Card to the Clockers of Over UK.

I suspect a dead gpu, but check some things first.

What psu do you have? (i know you'd think if it used to run 2 then it should be able to run 1, but dodgy psu's can cause all sorts of problems)

DL CPU-Z's HW monitor and check temps on the 2nd card.

Thanks for your reply :)

PSU is an Enermal Liberty 620w,

I'm running MSi Afterburner with the LCD Feature on my G15 Rev1 (Best keyboard ever) and temps have never been a problem with the second card.

That's a decent psu, definitely capable of running those cards.

good temps too? Hmmm, unless anyone else has any other ideas then i'm afraid it's not looking good.

EDIT: What about dust? What's the dust levels like? How often do you clean them out?

They're both super cool. No dust clogging the coolers up either as I blast it out regularly :)

Nobody else? Seems like 99% of the Graphics section want to indulge in some fan boy wars rather than help out a fellow forum member :p

I had a similar problem with 5770 crossfire, but both cards worked fine on their own. I removed the heatsink and applied some mx3 to both never had the issue again. The heatink must have been badly fitted.

Might be worth a try if you haven't already.

Cooler was removed and Arctic Silvered a while back :)

It's still within warranty! It's 12 months old and has a three year warranty. Until then only edible products are entering my even thanks! haha
