I see a car and I want it painted black...

Im totally confused here.

I kind of get buying an RS, and then getting it wrapped in a different colour.

But why on earth would you buy an RS, and then have it resprayed, at quite frankly LOL cost....

Its not lol cost a proper quality respray comes to that money, or 3.5k up anyway, its just why would anyone waste that much on a Focus with perfectly good paint, if you disliked the original colour so much surely you just dont buy the car.

Sorry Mark I wasn't clear. My point was pretty much why would you spend 5.5k respraying a focus?

I kind of understand respraying to original colours for some sort of concourse car... maybe even on a MK1 focus RS to revive former glory.... but to Black on an RS doesn't make much sense to me...

I refuse to beleive somebody paid £5.5k to respray a Focus black.

Then you are misunderstanding what some folk who are into Fords are like! :)

If you look at the Passionford forum you will see what I mean, the lengths and expense some people go to to modify or restore even a fairly mundane model like an Orion or Granada needs to be seen to be believed. Buying a Mk2 Focus RS and spending mega money on it for it to be exactly the way they want is really not that surprising when taken in this context :)

People talking about the RS500 - I believe its actually painted black underneath with a wrap applied over the top?

I have to say having seen pictures of a panther black RS that was spied around Essex a while black (RS500/Mountune test car apparently) I can see why somebody would want a black one, it looks evil!

"Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black"

Seemingly not Mr Henry Ford!

I don't get it because every single body wrap I've seen up close and personal has been rubbish. A glorified sticker is quite simply never going to be the same as a well done, fresh coat of paint. Not in a million years.

If you intend on keeping a car for many years and more importantly the car wasn't available in the certain colour that you really want then I can just about understand it.

What I don't understand is not putting in much research when it comes to bodyshops. I know loads of guys who are in the painting business and yet I still don't know a single one I'd let touch my car (at least for full retail cost).

Trial and error finds you a good paint bloke, if you see my paint mans railway arch you'd never believe the work that comes out the other end.

the blue bits are under the bonnet and where the metal strut that holds the bonnet up has rubbed the black paint away.

the car looks awesome in black, far better than the lime green one that the chavy bint across the road has!

Weird that on the chavy line. Because around my area there are A LOT of proper chavs and neds driving about in focus rs, quite young as well. On a sat night round the town you've got about 20 of them all driving around in these lime green focus rs lmfao.

What I don't understand is how the hell do they afford the 25k or w.e it is for the car not even thinking about insurance or running costs?

with paint it all comes down to how much the person in question is prepared to prep.

If the prep is rushed it will be a crap job. Likewise if its done to perfection, it will reflect in the final results.

You cant judge this merely from the price, or from the premises, as theres far too many in the automotive industry who are prepared to do a "that'll do job" and still charge top money.

Its called finance, even chavs have jobs.

I have a feeling that me might have been exaggerating just a bit, but I do get the point - They are hardly rare cars and do seem to attract "that" sort of crowd.
