Unlocked iPhone 3GS problem with Orange sim

I have an old 3GS that I unlocked using a PAYG sim and unlock fee, however, when I put an Orange sim into it, it doesn't recognise the network. Any ideas why this would be?

Have you reset the network settings on the phone and rebooted it?

Iphones are picky on the sim cards themselves, sometimes getting a newer sim will fix that.

I haven't, I'll give that a try. I only rebooted it without fiddling with the network settings.

This thought came into my head too as the sim is about 3+ years old and the chip on it almost touches the edge whereas the PAYG sim I used to unlock the phone has the chip in the middle.

yes, that will be an old SIM and probably not even 3G enabled
