New exterior DVD burner!

I just recently discoverd that the optical drive that came in my laptop won't write on dvd (God I hate Sony). It's a MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ880AS, if there any possible fixes please tell me but if there aren't any can you spec me an exterior one for £20.

I would suggest replacing the drive if it is a Read Only one, this looks like a good bet.

This is the cheapest external one I can find on OCUK.

To be honest, these prices are very competitive - coupled with the free delivery you get from OCUK It is probably your best option.

Would anyone mind telling me if this drive is capable of writing to dvds?

Both of the drives I mentioned in my first post can write to DVDs. When it says "DVD±RW" it means it can write and rewrite DVDs.

As for your current drive, it looks like it is capable - but a lot of people are having problems with it. May I ask what OS you are using?

Don't need help anymore because I just found out that I needed to tun the speed down for it to work.
