Im currently in my last year of my Mech Eng course at college, im currently doing a Advance Diploma in Engineering and i wana carry on learning once this course reaches its climax in June!

Now im looking at a HNC because then i can do a Foundation degree, move onto the final year of a Eng honors degree and then possibly a chartered status!

Something i aspire to reach one day, the thing im struggling with is the possibility of getting the money together for the courses.

Now i know if i pass to University ill get funding but what i want to know is can i get funding for a HNC?

Im trying my hardest to figure this out but at this time of night theres no one i can contact to find out for sure as im trying to negotiate my way through the Govt websites.

Anyone got any knowledge/experience on this subject?

SASS provides funding, be it fees and/or loans for HNCs. Approach your student support agency for your area. They are semiautonomous from the government so no point looking at governmental websites.

My uni friends keep saying "direct.gov" im like cheers for no help :)

But cheers man this helps ill google it now and speak to college thursday.

EDIT: Looked this up, they just pass me onto student finance UK? I only need my Course paid for, dont want no extra loans or money from them.

SAAS will only pay for ONE HNC and HND to completion OR your first year of university. Not both. So if you've already attended university the chances are slim at obtaining funding for a HNC.

This is the situation I'm currently in. Paying for my first year of uni because I already obtained a HND 5 years ago.

Well yeah, there is that, unless you do a 2+2. But, it's a bit pointless going into the intricate details of SAAS as he's not covered by them anyway. I was just saying he needs to find his applicable student funding body as oppose to the government. Thinking about it, my reply was a bit pointless because English uni students have to pay their fees themselves so I suspect their funding bodies only provide loans/bursaries and not tuition fee payments.

Well work have paid for the Technical cert and are now paying for my Advanced Diploma, and im looking into my HNC although it looks like they only do a HND at bradford? Wierddddd!!

Is there any point doing a HNC after an advanced diploma? You'd be better looking to do a HND with a college that offers a 2+2. Meaning, you do your HND and then go into 3rd year at university. I'd imagine a HNC after an advanced diploma would be a waste as it would probably be rather repetitive. Or, it may be possible that you could get into 2nd year of a HND with your cert. Worth asking the people at colleges in your area though!

A HND is generally a two year course. The HNC is the first year of a HND.

I remember reading something about passing onto the final year of a HND after the adv dip.

Maybe thats something else i need to speak to college about to see what im actually eligible for before trying to find funding.

Ill reply Friday when i find more out.
