the UK offers to loan £10bn to R.O.I.

I think the question is can we afford not to help? Taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11808567

  • The Irish Republic is the UK's fifth largest export market
  • Every man, woman and child in the Republic spends an average of £3,607 per year on British goods
  • The Republic is the UK's number one export market for the food and drink sectors
  • 62 Irish companies are listed on the London Stock Exchange
  • More pressing is the credit exposure of British banks to Irish borrowers, amounting to more than £50bn
It seems if they suffer then we too will suffer.

It certainly seems that the UK has little choice but to help.

After all the years of bombings and murders, why would we do this??

Because those don't exist to people on the mainland unless they served and toured here. As far as the majority of mainland Britain is concerned Northern Ireland doesn't exist and Ireland is already one country.

because we lead the way at being this kind of nation. i personally don't have any hard feelings about the terrorist attacks as i'd rather take a progressive stance but we need to look after the UK first imo

I heard that as part of the deal, we're getting discounted road resurfacing and tarmacced drives... :p

Loads of our exports go to Ireland, so we need them in good shape.
Also, it'll generate a stream of income in the form of interest, which is always helpful.
