Induction kits do they improve perfomance

My old car had a k&n typhoon kit and it gained power according to the runs on the dyno.
It also depends on what car you have and what kit you buy.

No idea about fords but the ebay induction kits get laughs all the time on Honda forums, you wouldn't believe how many new members you see posting "omg guys I paid just £35 for this kit off ebay and vtec kicks in so much harder now!!" (they haven't gained any power they've just lost mid range torque giving the illusion its kicking in harder when its unchanged). Id say you should check stickies on ford forums and you will prob find a comparison review of intakes somewhere and it could save you some money too (i.e Its pretty easy to find out the best intake for the Honda Prelude is actually the Type-S OEM one, these can be had from a scrappy fairly cheaply as they were standard to all models post 1999, despite this AEM/BMC will charge you £200 for an inferior intake)

mate of mine had a dc2 years back. put a gayer cone on it.

took it out and it made loads of loads

i pointed out the rest of the system that he had now left defunct and how venturis increase speed

sure enough his car was slower

Put a k&n 57i on my Fiesta ST.

Hasn't made a massive difference to be honest with you, does sound pretty nice now though. Have noticed it idles so much better than before. Does seem to pull better in 5th gear compared to my brother's ST. Before, he would pull away...

Only £80 investment, would do it again as I've been able to compare mine with a standard example.

Edit: Also adapted it this weekend and moved it lower, towards the grille. Could notice heatsoak before, will see how I get on with it now.

To get the most out of a new filter/air intake shouldn't you technically get the car remapped too?

Yep, same with any engine modification, but it's not really cost effective.

I like to use the term "be reet" when it's air filter/exhaust related. If I was going to faff with cams etc then yea, remap time.

No of course, but I just wonder why bother unless you do it properly? ECU remaps are silly money though... I guess modern ECUs can adapt enough with a minor mod like a air filter change?

Yep, also not all ECU's are re-mappable (CTR for example). You'd have to buy a new ECU and then take it to be mapped. Faff++ for a few hp.

On my car (Clio 182) there have been lots of tests including a sticky on the CS forum about air filters/inductions. With such a well designed air box as standard they offer little if none and sometimes even less performance than standard. Obviously you'll have a nice induction noise and a big chunk of cash missing from your wallet.

Remap imo was the best mod I did to it.

It really does depend on the car and wether it's NA/Turbo/SC etc etc.

Cheapest & best mods = strip weight, upgrade brakes & tyres = enjoy your go-kart :D

I really don't get your meaning, but if you were questioning why I was using Honda information to answer a Ford question, I did state that I knew nothing about the Focus then explained using examples why ebay intakes are laughed at on Honda forums and that the OP should ask on a Ford forum if they are any good and what the best intake for his car is.
