Hi guys im back again :P (some may remember i made a similar post back in June) sadly the Razer Carcharias didnt last, and im now stuck again without a headset. Ive been fighting with headsets for a few years now, all seem to end up with a break in the wire (dont ask me how, i never move/step-on or roll-over them with the chair, they just dont like me :P ) anyway ive gone through many types most have bin from Plantronics or Creative Fatal1ty (the last being the Razer Carcharias which was by far the best one ive had in terms of sound quality) but it did have its problems (the cups feel a little to small and the structure is very loose and too easily adjusted, aswell as having a very stupidly designed volume switch that is easily changed just by moving against your clothing) but im not here to talk about the past, im here for help in finding a new headset :)

im not the smartest when it comes to computers but i believe my sound card is a Creative SB X-Fi (if that matters) as far as money goes i dont really have a limit (and if it is very pricey well... xmas is coming :P but in all seriousness i wouldnt be comfortable going over £90) i would be using them mostly for gaming (CoD4, MoH, etc) mostly FPS games so positioning is key, i do also enjoy listening to metal music and watching movies but my main intrest in them is for gaming.

ive spend the last few hours looking at headsets and im completley lost with what would be best for me so if anyone who understands where im coming from & could reccomend something, i would greatly appreciate it (so far the ones ive looked at have all bin shot down by friends who have diffrent opinions, for example one shouted at me for looking at a USB headset, another ranted about 5.1/7.1 headsets being a scam) so im not really sure what to think :P i know one friend who is godlike on CoD4 and claims to be able to pin-point...everything basicly by sound, he uses a goldring headset however from what i understand it has a seperate mic (which im guesing means 2 seperate wires which maybe isnt a good idea for someone with wire problems like myself :P )

anyway i realise ive ranted quite abit now but for anyone willing to read through it and offer some helpfull advice i thank you kindly :)

Do you know which X-Fi you have?

Probably best to avoid USB connection as these bypass your soundcard.

Your soundcard will simulate surround over stereo headphones so you only require stereo not 5.1 or 7.1.

I probley know what hes going to recommend ;) goldring NS1000 with a clip on mic.

still you can get any clip on from anywere.

oh yeah with a fiio amp

am I right?

Actually, I was looking for something with angled drivers and large soundstage - as he's got an X-Fi.

Struggling to come up with something at what I consider a decent price though.

It is very hard to beat NS1000s for the money at the moment. Likewise the price of Goldring DR150s makes recommending any of the open Sennheisers or Audio-Technicas difficult. He's already tried Carcharias....

I like the look of that headset...to be honest...I m a sod for wires...so you know..

why don't OCuk do goldrings damm it -.-

I have an X-Fi xtremegamer too.

Using NS1000 + Fiio E5 and I've yet to hear anything close, but I haven't tried many really high end headphones.

ahhh thanks Marsman for clearing that up for me :)

and as far as wireless headsets go i was warned off them :P (kinda funny so far ive bin told everything i shouldnt get, but no ones bin able to tell me what to get :P )

ive been bugging some friends and finaly got a recomendation, a friend told me to get the Goldring DR150 (and a seperate clip on mic) he said the DR150 has great sound for FPS games and would be good for me because apparently u can easily change the wire (if it were to get damaged, which for me is likley :P ) does anyone have any comments on this, i need some proffesional help (maybe in more ways than one ;) ) let me know what u think :)

I had actually thought the removable wire of DR150s might appeal to you.

I've not been able to turn up anything better for the money and I've just been using some DR150s with an X-Fi and CMSS-3D Headphone while testing out audio in a few games. They don't do a bad job at all really - just not quite as good as what they can do with Dolby Headphone.

I have the DR150's, great headphones. Detachable cable might be an added bonus, if you are prone to cable destruction. :p Cable is good quality, not some cheap thin cable that you get with a lot of headsets.

Well I think wireless is the way to go, if you say your other headsets end up with broken wires :). This would mean that the g930 IS the best option.

But if you are trying to avoid wireless, you can try the Logitech g35 - it's just like the g930, but with a wire.
