hey guys,

I have a laptop that is 10 months old and last week it starting shutting down randomly and now when I plug in the power cord I get a message saying that maybe a problem with my battery and I need to replace it.

So, since the laptop is less than a year old is the battery covered by the 1 year manufacture warrenty??

I'll call PC world in the morning but thought I'd ask you guys now.

Cheers in advance :)

A lot of manufacturers offer only 6 months warranty on battery, I believe - need to check the warranty information provided with the laptop.
My recently purchased Acer 8371 has a 1yr warranty, but the battery is noted as being covered for only 6 months.....

I have a bad feeling that some batteries only have a warranty for 6 months but different manufacturers give different warranty lengths so you're best off asking the shop if batteries are covered in the 12 month warranty.

I'm surprised that they're allowed to get away with a 6 month warranty myself...

cheers for the advice guys.

I've spoken to a mate this morning (and fellow forum member) and he is going to get one from work.... wink, wink...

:)

thanks again.

Don't bin your old battery, if it's no longer covered by the warranty then either recycle it put it on MM or e-bay.

Often the cells can be re-used so it would be a shame if the old battery pack ended up in a landfill after less than 12 months...

Plus, the battery itself is toxic, and should be disposed of correctly. Loads of shops have battery recycling now. Bung it in there.

when did I say that I was just going to bin the battery??

I'm fully aware of the WEEE directive and will be disposing of it correctly.

Cheers :)
