Just playing some black ops and it gave a beep went dark and red light was flashing, hit the button and get a brief yellow light with a red 'ring' around it and back to red flashing light, cant even eject the black ops disk, and GT5 should be here in the next few days, Old launch system :(

Yep its dead jim, can be fixed normally just a temp one pretty easily though. Think trentlad did a pretty good guide on here somewhere.

Think there is a way to get the disc out, something like hold eject power off at the wall still holding eject and then plug power back in and everything should spin up at full speed and eject the disc.
Just do a google and double check i may have got it slightly wrong.

Ye just turn the switch off at the back, hold the eject button and turn the switch back on.

You suffer from YLOD.
Either fix it yourself, get it fixed by someone else, get it fixed by Sony or sell it broken.
I sold my broken launch PS3 for 80 euro.

You can open up the PS3, take apart the BR drive and take out your game.

Going to buy a new slim today, had enough money squirrled away incase something like this happened, may see about getting it fixed at some later date ethier as a backup machine or for resale, did get my disc back by opening up the drive, was a bit confused why i had a small metal bracket left over after i fiftted it all back up, but eventually figured it out.

its certainly worth fixing due to the protected game saves not sure if you can do a back up from one ps3 to another so they transfer over to the new one .
i have spotted demon souls on your trophy board so i suppose it gives you a excuse to play it again :p;):D coop sir

Not to bothered about the saves, can redo the games if i can be arsed, just setting up the console now, was ages in the town, did get Medal of honor free with the console which wasnt bad, shame the damm power lead is so short have the ps3 sitting on the left side now and just feels un-natural :(
