another 2.1 thread.

Im looking for 2.1 speakers that have rca input for xbox360.

budget £70 mark

any recommendations please

any idea guys ?

my setup is as follows,

I got a htpc connected via hdmi which passes through aduio to tv, the xbox360 also is connected via hdmi.

So sound is primary coming from TV, the tv only has red/white RCA input for sound.

Would I be right in thinking if I bought for example a 2.1 speaker system such as the logitech z523 which has rca input feed. It would turn my tv into a 3.1 channel system ?

what is the best setup. I'm not looking to buy expensive amp/receiver.

Doesn't necessarily have to be RCA input. A set with 3.5mm jack input would be fine, you would use a RCA to 3.5mm jack cable.

The Z523's look reasonably good. I saw a comment from some guy who owned some Z4's previously, which have had decent comments from people, and he said the Z523's are superior. For £70 or less, you probably wont get much better.

As for the TV, don't you mean RCA output? Connecting speakers to the TV's input wouldn't be much use. :p

I am guessing by 3.1, you mean to use the TV as the centre speaker? which is a bad idea IMO. I can't see why you would want to. To buy a fairly decent 2.1 speaker set, to use in place of the TV speakers, only to use the TV speakers anyway?

i have these speakers and love them.

i went from a 5.1 to a t40 gigaworks set and ended up with the Z523 and glad i got them.

paired with a good sound card these speakers are crystal clear and now i have run them in for a few months the bass is sharp and everything just sound's so much better.

you can pick them up for £60 with free delivery which is a good price for such a quality set of 2.1 speakers.

That's very interesting. You went from T40's to the Z523's. How on earth can the Z523's sound better? Think about it. For one, they are cheaper, and also you have the cost of the subwoofer to consider. Meaning the satellites of the Z523's are going to be cheap in comparison to the T40's. I suppose, the T40's could be hideously over priced.

Just read a review of the Z523's, and those RCA's on the rear of the sub are not for connecting to an audio device, they are to connect the speaker satellites. The set uses a hard wired cable, with a 3.5mm jack on one of the speakers. They do have a secondary input, which again is 3.5mm.

so what's the recommendation, I want to enhance the tv speakers. By the way my tv unfortunately doesn't have a 3.5mm jack.

So the Z523 doesnt allow the rca input at the back of the sub to connect devices like xbox360 ?

because on the product description it mentions hooking up xbox 360

Dual RCA jack and a 3.5 mm jack let you easily connect your Logitech® Squeezebox™ network music player, gaming console, DVD player or iPod®.

Intriguing. So much for the review I read, that mentioned nothing of the RCA inputs, only the 3.5mm input. You are indeed correct, they are RCA inputs. I should know better than to trust a review of speakers or headphones on a gaming website. :o

I say connect the speakers to the TV, at least then you can have either PC, Xbox or TV channel sound coming through the speakers without having to mess about with splitters and switch boxes to connect each device to the speakers.

I can understand why they sound better than the T40's having the T40's myself. The bass is poor on them. They perform not bad with some music but poorly with other. They are also over priced as you said. They really should be £20-£25 cheaper. a £75 set not the £100 I paid for them (although I see they have come down a bit in price now) I wish I had spent a little more and got the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1's. I intend to replace them soon. T40's look nice and are good if you don't want or have space for a separate sub but can't beat even the cheapest of 2.1 sets.

ive seen a lot of people spec this Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1's set and i was thinking of getting them before my z523's.

might have to do a bit more research on these now.

I had the aegos delivered on Saturday and I am pretty impressed with them. Haven't been passed half volume in fear of annoying next door. Should be bedded in nicely so going to crank it a little more this weekend ;)

My best purchase of the year.
