Hitachi wins the 7200RPM 3TB race then :). Shame I'd never touch one again after the deathstars.

WD have their green 3TB, Hitachi have this, wonder when Seagate are gonna show their cards..... And if they'll be 5400RPM or 7200RPM.
 
If you only have 9 bays of 2tb, that is 18tb, with these drives, it is 27tb.

thats a massive massive difference. As always, the highest capacity drives are the price premium. I am still using 1Tb drives in my server. No current need for more than 5Tb storage. (2.5 really)

And you'd trust that much data with consumer grade hard drives?
 
I would assume they have a level of redundancy / fault tolerance in whatever there is to be used!
Just an example for the people who do not understand!

I'm sure they do but the example is a bit pointless. You're basically saying 3TB is bigger then 2TB which I'd guess everyone knows.

When these are sub £100 they'll be worth talking about.

Will never order any hitachi hard disk as my 2 x 1TB hitachi deskstar had died within 15 months twices. And be careful, windows 7 might not see any larger than 2Gb in hdd these day (I think ?)

Wonder when Seagate's offering is gonna surface? Also I presume that eventually WD are gonna do a proper 3TB 7200RPM Black.....

It's not just OS's that have problems with 2.19TB.... motherboards too. See http://www.storagereview.com/western_digital_caviar_green_3tb_review_wd30ezrsdtl where they explain it properly (that's the review of the 3TB WD drive, which was out first but only 5400RPM).

Quite a few people say this. I had a 60gb deathstar back in 2001 and it died destroying all my data and I've never brought another since. I wonder if the deathstar financialy incident seriously hit IBM badly with replacements and lost custom?

Also is it right to still hold a grudge now IBM aren't making drives and are Hitachi?
