Hi all,

I am upgrading my mates pc and we have replaced mobo, ram, cpu.

I put everything together but when I switch it on I dont even get a bleep, there is no power at all.
I think that the PSU is not compatible can any body help me.

the specs

intel q8400 quad
2 x 2gb ddr2
old graphics card

The PSU is a ATX 400 12v not sure of the manafacturer but it says on the side v2.2/P4
The mobo is a ASUS P5QL EPU

Also if it is the case what PSU's will work, will any of the new but non modular be ok.
cheers for your help

is there a light on the motherboard?

we need the power supply model of course to tell u if it is compatible or not... although the "v2.2" suggests that it is compatible (edit: as in atx v2.2)

also which "old graphics card" is it?

honestly sounds like u have missed a wire/cable/even the switch on the back of the psu...

Hi no, no fans or lights or anything just completly dead. the model is a aireal or somthing very simerler its at least 3 years old but says P4 and the mobo is P5 i have the 4pin and the big long one connected and all the other wires i think are connected but the mobo has a pwr fan 3 pin thing on it and the psu does not have any such connecter.

If you have the 4 pin connected which is located near the CPU and then you also have
the 24 Pin connected as well on the motherboard then the motherboard should have
power going to it.

Also make sure that the power switch on the back of the Power supply is on.

If so there should be some sort of light on the board to tell you it has power going to it.
If not i would suggest disconnecting all the power cable and then putting them back in
again and make sure everything is in the right place.

Is the motherboard power switch connected to the board ok.

Also link out pins 13 & 14 on the main ATX connector with just a fan on the molex connector connected, this should start the PSU.

I'd try that, simple check to see if the PSU will fire up.

I took his old working machine and stuck the working power supply on to this new setup everything was new exept the psu it defentaly worked before this. It only has the sata wires and the fan wires and the 4 pin and the 24 pin wires no other wires or anything.

Is there a red voltage switch on the back of this PSU ? If there is and it's switched to 115 instead of 230...you most probably have a blown PSU.

ERROR --> User_Michael has exceeded assumption capability. Powering off.
