Are there any crimes that deserve death?

There's no justice in the death penalty. It is an appeal to emotion and a flawed method of dealing with crime, there's little else to it.

Yes.
There are far too many of us on this planet anyway but if the DNA evidence was conclusive, let's not waste the time/money keeping 'em locked up; get rid!

DNA evidence is not the magic it's so often portrayed as being.

All DNA evidence can almost prove is that something from your body was in a certain place.

It can't prove you were there.

It can't prove you did anything.

A real life example:

A man was arrested for rape on the grounds of DNA evidence. So he's proven guilty, right?

Wrong. Fortunately for him, the victim saw her attacker and knew it wasn't him and he could prove he was somewhere else at the time.

The DNA evidence wasn't a mistake. He worked at the hospital she went to and while she was there one of his hairs caught in a ring she was wearing.

They DO have internet access, its in a room and supervised but they DO have it. Ive seen it on news reports where they have been in the prison Internet room.
I think you're correcting the wrong person honey bunny, Moley is the gentlemen claiming that they have no access to the Internet inside!

I for an I.

If it was with intent.

LIFE sentence (for life) if death by fighting or accident because of drink driving is another I firmly believe in.

May sound harsh but it would scare the **** outta people to cause fights in the street if a person died because of it or drink driving caused death.

Getting into a fight doesn't mean you are trying to kill the person. A punch that takes a person down, hits their head on kerb and dies. Is that a death sentence offence?

Well if you entered into a fight (for whatever reason) and then that person died be it instantly or later on because of injuries suffered then that person who started has to face a life sentence in my opinion.

I believe it would stop the senseless fighting seen in town, people ganging up to kick another person badly, they all should realise if this person dies then they could lose their 'freedom' for LIFE because of those actions.

Murder or the infliction of great bodily harm to which the person may never recover fully.
I really can't side with people who think these people should get off with living, they are disgusting individuals who have ruined other peoples lives and should not have the pleasure of breathing.

for me, any repeated violent crime should have the option of a death penalty.

murder, rape, violent child abuse (sexual and otherwise), assault. the important thing is that with the exception of murder, other methods of punishment and reform have been tried. If a person is unwilling, or unable to stop themselves from committing violent crimes against other members of society then they should be removed.

The above does depend however on proof of guilt. I am fairly happy with things like strong DNA evidence, video proof and such. 1 in every 10,000 might not be 100% guilty, I can live with that.

How do crime rates compare between countries that do and do not have the death penalty?

Thats all well and good, but im referring to a fictional world where it is very strict, and you will be executed for just about anything.

And thus tougher punishments mean less crime.

And as that is true, the opposite is false.

And therefore the only problem here is the correlation is difficult to see using your definition of tough.

actually, there would be more crime as almost everyone would be in breach of at least one of the very strict rules.

You are aware that DNA evidence can just show you had contact with someone, and the video proof may not be all that good. It might show someone with the victim, or doing something with the victim at some point but that isn't cast iron.

The idea that extremely strict punishments stop or deter crime is a joke.
They don't, you can look at the likes of Iran where they are extremely strict about what wouldn't even be crimes here, and the death penalty doesn't stop them.
Likewise back when stealing a loaf of bread could get you put to death it didn't stop it.

Having the resources to catch criminals deters them more than the harshest punishments if the chance of catching them is low.
So it would be much better to have more officers actually working on solving crimes and then more of the current punishments, than say making murder/abh/gbh/child abuse a death penalty offence but rarely catching the criminals.

FoxEye I have come to the conclusion you are full of ****.

Because I don't think we should kill, or cause disproportionate suffering, or treat in an inhumane way, those who have committed crimes?

That makes me full of ****? Or was it something else I said? :p

You not answer my question makes you full of ****!

Dear oh dear.

Some of you have no idea what justice is. "Lock them up and throw away the key"; "let them rot"; "kill them" - those things are not even about justice at all.

Those things would simply make you feel better about the crime that was committed.

This is why asking this question to the general public is a pretty bad thing to do. Most people let their emotions rule over their judgement. Especially when it comes to something like pedophilia.

So what would you do then given the choice?
