ipod touch 1st gen - resuming play?

When I turn my ipod touch off after listing to music It doesnt resume a song in the place I left off. (just got back to list of tracks)

Is this normal as I mainly have 2-4 hour mixes which I want to carry on listening to?

This can be done on all players I have had including ipod shuffle 1st gen and an old creative jukebox

Off meaning, slide to power off? Surely it wouldn't then anyway.. standby it will be ok

Yeh, im just leaving it on standby now. I have always turned players off when i have finished using them - ipod original, ipod touch, classic 80gb and none apple players - they remember the track/middle of the song last played

works fine in standby but i thought this might kill the battery.

It'll last for ages in standby, won't do it any harm. It's more like a phone in that you don't really need to switch it 'off', just put it to sleep.

The Classic doesn't really go off either, it's just asleep.
