***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Regarding Head Tracking,

Go to Options->Hardware, then scroll all the way to the right for PS-Eye,

Then set the range/angle (first 2 choices) to 7 or 8 (to exaggerate the tracking).. Ensure you can see yourself in the live PSEye view shown on that options screen, If it puts a cross on your face then it's picking you up.

It doesn't activate in Licence tests/A-Spec races, but it works in Arcade Races, the Red LED will light up when the PS-Eye is engaged.

The reason it looks like it isn't working is partly because the range/angle settings are so low, you have to turn your head nearly 45 degrees before you get a slight movement on screen!..

I've tried it, and turned it off, the motion as it pans makes me think the car is sliding and I keep reacting to it, you may do better with it..

:)

Just played with the settings some more and got it working as well, but only if I'm sitting less than a metre from the Eye - not sure if the range improves with better lighting conditions.

Also only works in cockpit view which is fair enough.

This is by no means a bad game, and the content is good, and I will continue to play it and on the whole I will enjoy it.

However, I agree with Nismo a few pages back, that the tracks/surroundings look too artificial. In F1 2010 I really love how I feel like I'm actually on the track, and the colours and the lighting seem right, but on most tracks on GT5 I've tried so far they just seem to lack realistic colours/lighting/something...not exactly sure, which does detract from the overall experience.

The standard cars aren't a game ruiner for me, but it is pretty poor to say this game has been in the making for so long.

Also at the moment, I don't find it as exciting as F1 2010.

Overall a game with good content, and generally decent graphics, just the tracks/surroundings let it down and the standard cars. I never expected it to be perfect, but I'm a bit annoyed that there are so many 'rough edges' in a game thats taken so long to come out, and is created by a guy who takes pride in apparently making a game as perfect as possible.

Would you say t was a feat worth using?

lol Drive the Zonda... Then let me know what you think lol

With a steering wheel!

So it operates on a system where by anyone can create a public lobby with their own settings and random people can join, or you can create a private lobby and invite only the people you want?

Yeah. You create what GT calls a lounge.

Where all you contacts can meet up and arrange races.

You can also post on each other message boards

I'm an hour in and giving it a quick rest...

So far

Impressed with the graphics
Premium cars are very well done..
Handling is very good
Replays are nothing short of amazing

but...

Head tracking simply won't work but i'm going to try a few more settings
Screen tearing is a major problem. Its not light and ruins this
Dull racing until I went to arcade and jumped in a F40 then it gets a bit more interesting..

so going to try and get further in and hopefully first niggles will be over.

Problem I see... GT5 is very late to the party. Forza 3 has been there done it, and GT5 ended up playing catch up. If it had been released 2 years previous, this would be a jaw dropped all conquering game..

but now, its in the wake of forza 3 and its barely able to keep up...

Still, got to give it more time and its by no means a poor game..

as usual the slower cars to start with are very mundane, but I love my RX7. so much fun with it, swinging it around corners and trying to catch the oversteer with the wheel, my arms are killing me!!!

If you've got a race seat setup yes I'd say it's worth while, if your playing from the couch then not so much (I'm not even sure it'll work from the distance most couches are from the TV!). As I mentioned anything more than a metre away from mine and it's not tracking at all.

Tried that, but no joy :(

online or offline, connected with a wired connection and directly to the modem but still no joy

Sure I read somewhere, if you take Ethernet cable out and do a wireless connection it will solve the problem?

I'm sorry if this is a bit retarded but...

I've got my G25 plugged in and it's not showing up on the list of devices. There's a whole list of other wheels but no G25. Does it come up as a DFP and I can change settings in there? At the moment I have the FFB cranked up to 10 yet it feels sloppy until I hit something.

Strange. Similar thing happened to me. I logged out of the network and it worked. (Logged back in shortly after)
