New Car Help - Vauxhall?

I can argue all day about whether this is just a one off bad dealer

Still doesnt explain why it broke in the first place, and why engines like the 1.9 CDTi 150bhp engine are so unreliable.

And thats before we get onto issues of poor residuals, and interior build quality etc...

Sounds like the OP had his heart set on an Astra from the start and wouldn't of changed his mind no matter what anyone in here said, lol.

The only Vauxhall I would touch would be the Monaro, learned to drive in corsa's, an astra, and my dad had a very problematic Vectra, so I likely won't be driving a vauxhall in a while.

Anyway, I have driven them (Focus, Fiesta, Bravo, Punto, Corsa, etc), but this is what I have decided on. I really liked them from the start, and that's what I'm going for. Anyway, any advice now we've got that out the way? :p

Interested in what you thought of the Bravo and Focus compared with the Astra?

Why do you personally prefer the Astra over the other two?

Can't believe how much Astra hate is in this forum, I enjoy mine a lot. Nice to be in, nice to drive, quick for a "warm" hatch. Admittedly I'm about to sell up, but that's only because I'm earning a tad more money and can afford to start looking a bit up market.

Isn't this engine half Fiat, half GM - they use it in some alfas don't they?

i honestly dont know

I just see the threads on vectra-c of 50 + pages long with people arging about how reliable it is or not. There are some withour problems, but most seem to have had them. Foxtrot on here has one in his taxi, and experienced the DMF issue as well.

Yeah that was my experience with the VXR.

that's ****! (it would be regardless mind)
You would expect some kind of better service if you were paying for one of the most expensive cars in their range

Thing is with vauxhall (imo) is that that they are built to a price, to offer bargain motoring.

They are for people who buy automotive white goods for whom "car is a car" the sort that would, like stockhausen, be very proud of buying a brand new hyundai i10 grotbox because its new.

Only difference between Vauxhall and and the korean is that they have a slightly more upmarket european styling, but they are after the same type of customer.

This is what ALWAYS happens when people suggest that a vauxhall might not be the best option - someone clmes along and calls everyone vauxhall haters,

The OP said he's considered all the competition based on a lot of factors. He's not, he's based it on the looks and it was what he was going to buy from the beginning. He didn't even react to the Leon suggestion, another funky looking car that's better in every way than the astra.

He wanted something shiny with big wheels, it's a daft way to buy a car IMO but if that's what he wanted, it would have been easier if he had said that from the beginning

I too would like to know this.

I'm guessing since you went to the dealers and test drove all of them, you have some idea of what they're like and what is better about the Astra?

albeit dmf failure after dogs abuse as a taxi and 140k miles of wear and tear :)

horrible engines to work on and the early ones are about as reliable as a politician.

known problems with a bad batch of dmfs and with early(pre 2008 inlet manifold issues- linkage/swirlpot problems) but other than that their cracking lumps go well map well and are pretty economical if you lay off the right foot

I wonder how many posters in this thread have driven the new Astra?

/raises hand

Really like the new astra from the inside. Just the exterior lets it down imo. Unlike the old astra which looked good from the outside and horrific inside!

I'm not really sure why this is being discussed as the OP is clearly after the old Astra?

OP: Spec me a £5000 car
OcUK: Well the new shape Astra is good, but you can't afford one.

Wow. No threads allowed to go slightly off topic now?
You realise that this thread is dead as far as the OP is concerned, right?
Was it ok the MrLOL discussed his issues with a previous unrelated car as you haven't commented on that OT discussion?
