Harry Potter and the Deatly Hallows trailer

Watched it last night, having read the books as they launched and being a great fan of them I'll admit to struggling with the movies.

I'd give it 6.5/10 without talking about the plot/story in depth I really felt as though this was spun out for no good reason at all, sorry but all this "needs two movies" is complete hufflepuff.

lotr translated well enough to the big screen, deathly hallows could have been done in one three hour movie.

myself and the three other people I went with enjoyed it but came away feeling short changed.

I disagree. I'm glad they've split it into two. The twinge of anger i feel for the opportunism and capitalism involved is far outweighed by the satisfaction of watching a film fleshed out in the same way that the book intended.

Much of the final book was months and months of nothing. The whole point (in my opinion, remember) was that it felt slow, heavy and frustrating. The film did a good job of setting the time frame, but without the "Half Blood Prince Nothingness" that plagued the previous film.

If they'd made it into one film, you can imagine that parts that would have been cut out. The wedding (short, but at least it was there), Voldemorts confrontation with Grindlewald, Hermione obliviating her parents, and so on. None of these are essential but its excellent to have them in there.

Although, I do wish The Big V had turn up at Bathilda Bagshots house. that would have been awesome.

Agreed. It reminded me of LOTR as well and parts of it looked like they had been lifted straight from it! I hope part 2 is better.

Anyone criticising the film because it misses parts of the book out need to A) Get a grip B) Use your noggin!

There's NO way they can cover everything. It's impossible. As long as the film incorporates the important parts in relation to the PLOT it's job done.

I saw the film last night, enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. The animation sequence of 'death' was particularly great.

It is DEFINITELY a postive the film has been broken up into 2 parts. Think how long the book is in comparison to the first two.

I saw this the other day and was actually quite impressed. Acting seemed much better than in the previous films (all 3 main characters were very good I thought) although the script was still a bit clumsy in places. I felt less rushed than the previous films (in a good way) which I guess is to be expected given that they split this book in 2.

Overall, would recommend it and looking forward to part 2. :)

Went to see this today, it wasn't bad to be honest, unfortunately the main 3's acting still really grates from time to time though.

Emma Watson can act, but she is often marred by the poor script and direction. The other two can't act, plain and simple.

the HP films were good until film 4 and then they decided to change the director the david yates! :/ he did an awful job on the 5th and 6th. i havnt seen the 7th part 1 yet so i wont comment on that but the way he directed the 5th n 6th were just plain awful

Saw it yesterday, thought it was good to be honest, though I still think Moldimort is far too camp, looking forward to the final part and what should be quite an epic battle scene :)

I would disagree, in that Rupert Grint can act, but I think that Emma and Daniel shouldn't ever be allowed near a set.

Yeah I think Rupert Grint is easily the best out the three of them and that Emma Watson has gotten better as the films have progressed. However I think Daniel Radcliffe has definitely benefited from his family connections rather than acting talent.

I thought the Deathly Hallows was pretty good and I really enjoyed it, not the best standalone film out of the series but at this point in the story it was never going to be. I did like how close it was to the book as well.

Maybe you're right, I don't know. Either way, I think the direction is shocking and the scenes frequently end up really stilted with awkward pauses.

Yeah, fair point. In all fairness, I thought every film was awful, bar the Half Blood Prince which I quite enjoyed. :o And given how the rest of the cast is made up of exceptional actors, I don't doubt that it was probably down to the direction and screenplay(s).

Indeed. The earlier films were totally carried by the crop of established, classic British actors. Now that it's focussed more on the kids the flaws show a lot more strongly.
