whats the most serious illness/health problem you've had

Had many ear infections as a child, which caused my inner ear to essentially rot. Had an operation to restore my hearing by grafting skin over the hole in the eardrum, but the bones in the inner ear was a lot thinner than anticipated, so ended up having a much more complex operation to rebuild my ear.

...alas, it failed and I still only have 5% hearing in my right ear.

Also have pins in my right wrist, as well as 3 depressed knuckles from fighting.
 
ulcerative colitis - It can be extremely serious and i was hospitized in 2007 but it's much more under control now. Compared to my life a few years back i'm living a fairly normal life
 
Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD, but not the crazy kind :p) - basically meant a lump of bone in my knee lost it's blood supply and fell off (probably occurred when i was much younger but explains why my knee was always achey after sports!) Last August whilst playing cricket the piece became dislodged and my knee buckled - following that I had 4 operations over 12 months to fix it, but the worst part was the 8 months on crutches. Anaesthetic is fun tho :)

I think that is similar to what I had with Mastoiditis. I dont think its rotting though, just wax leaking into the Mastoid bone, its supposed to be dangerous though, or it was a while ago :p

It came about as a result of many glue-ear infections I believe.
 
Brief, but hideously unpleasant, was the winter stomach bug that I had the other week. I spent nearly all morning on the bog. From time to time I had to chunder as well, and after a while I got fed up of trying to turn round to throw up in the sink so I just did it on the floor in front of me.

That was a rubbish day.
 
I had a beast of an ear infection a while ago that lasted about a month (due to crap doctors), ending up with me going to hospital to have surgery to get it drained out due to the risk of getting meningitis/brain legions :|
 
Had a few asthma attacks when I was younger that put me in hospital. Not nice, thankfully it's not as bad anymore.
 
No illnesses to speak of so far. Lots of broken bones from being a silly boy, but nothing too serious.

Oh i did almost bleed to death on my parents kitchen floor though, saved by a vacuum cleaner :D
 
I feel I've been quite lucky compared to some in this thread.

The worst I've had is Asthma, although it seemed a lot more serious than Asthma at the time. It would literally stop me being able to breathe, like I was choking on something, for up to a minute. The first time I experienced it I was playing a game on the PC and I still felt I had enough time to pause the game so I didn't lose the race I was in. It cleared itself up through my teenage years though and it's pretty much gone now.
 
Ulcerative Colitis. Can't seem to find anything that works apart from steroids, which I'm not willing to take long term. I live a pretty normal life though apart from spending a large portion of it on the bog.

I had that in my younger teens, wasn't much fun!

I was born 7 weeks prem and it's a good job I was, whilst my mother was carrying me she had appendicitis, unbeknownst to her Doctor who kept saying that I was laid awkward in her tummy :o. Straight after she gave birth to me she was rushed into theatre to have them removed as they were about to rupture! I'm lucky to be here!

Okay so the above isn't an illness, but depression is, and that blows!
 
Had the muscle that runs from the base of your spine across to the outside of your hip go into spasm on the left-hand side. This put a significant amount of pressure on my sciatic nerve which decided to start firing off random messages about pain in my leg. Felt one minute like I had a broken ankle, the next like I had a dislocated knee and so on. Couldn't sit or lay on my back as that put pressure on the affected area.

Lots of strong pain killers, muscle relaxants and anti inflammatories and the muscle eventually settled down after a couple of months(!). Then six months of physio. Still get the odd twinge now.

Cause; a new mattress which was too firm.
 
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia aged 1.5, followed by...
- Chicken Pox, was kept in hospital as I had basically no immune system from the chemotherapy.
- Some kidney infection (it started leaking blood into my bladder, so I got brown pee! Quite a shock to wake up one morning and find that...) aged 8/9.
