It's hard to say. If they started charging many people would leave and it wouldn't be the same place. This would be self fulfilling and eventually it would die a death.

The only online service i've ever paid for was a couple of MMOs and a subscription to the FFOC forum for the tech support with the car. I'll not pay for news or anything else really.

I don't get people answering zero or nominal sums to question 1.

I can't believe if I offer simulatorman nothing or eatcustard 1 pence they will merrily disappear and never return.

I'd probably take £100 to never return but I'd never pay a ransom to retrieve my forum account.
