Who will ditch 580 for 6900

I wasn't looking for a definitive answer I was just putting it out there for discussion and to gauge the 6900 release with the true enthusiast's who enjoy top end hardware.

No top end enthusiast will bother with a discussion until we've seen the true specs, so it leads me to believe that this is a wee troll.

I have been asking the question when ever new releases hit even if they are a refresh because I'm interested. So please shut up with the troll angle.

Got it?

Good

When I started reading this thread I initially thought it was troll bait but on reflection there may be some that would consider trading a 580 for a 6970 (assuming the 6970 is as fast and similar or lower priced) to gain the extra features (assuming the 6970 has the same dual mini display ports, 6 monitor support etc).

Edit: I should add that I dont own a 580 and won't be buying either a 6970 or a 580 anytime soon. I recently bought a 6870 to replace a pair of 4870's that I had in crossfire and it can happily handle everything I've thrown at it so far. I personally don't use multiple monitors or run in insane resolutions so either card for me would currently be overkill.

Further Edit: I don't agree with all of the comments on driver problems - I have several pc's, laptops, netbooks, servers and an htpc all of which use various cards from both nvidia and ati and I've had no driver issues with any of them other than one particulat set of nvidia drivers that insisted on overscanning on my tv when using hdmi (was fixed in the next set of drivers though and could be worked around).

Thats the biggest load of **** I have ever heard ;)

I have both & GTX480 & GTX580 & on their own either card makes Metro 2033 very smooth. GTX580 especially is awesome in DX11 minimal stuttering @ 1920x1200 with max everything doubt you would even notice it.

GTX480 less so but still smooth if you set AA to X2 or X4.

Pretty sure there is no card due until the GTX595 which will do any better than the GTX4/5 series in Metro 2033 ;)

30FPS actually & it spikes to 45 FPS a lot as well ;)

GTX480 even manages more than 25 FPS but GTX580 is in another league one you will probably never experience ;)

Rubbish. With max everything and a decent amount of AA, metro2033 brings my gtx470's in SLI at 839Mhz to their knees. In the built in benchmark there is a section which drops to 9 fps. I mean 9 fps, when on earth is that playable?

And my gtx470's in SLI are more powerful than a gtx580 anyway. So I think it will be Nvidia and ATI's next gen of cards which will give a conistant 30 fps+ in Metro2033

Metro2033 is the new Crysis.

And you would know?

Don't make me laugh...Its newcomers like you with this attitude that ruin these forums:(

Didn't you know? You're not allowed to suggest AMD/ATi have any sort of advantage over nVidia otherwise you're a troll, you're also not allowed to point out the "AMD/ATi drivers never work" being a complete and utter lie either, as it's trolling. You're not allowed to have an AMD or ATI card that has no issues without being a troll either.

(I'm sure it's no coincidence that all these people screaming troll are the usual trolling suspects in threads about AMD/ATi cards though)

Well it looks like the HD6990 is set to be 1.6-2 times as fast (XFire scaling) and come in as direct competition against the 50% faster (marketed) than a HD5870 GTX580.

A £400 ish HD6990 is going to be mighty tempting, for even me and I really dont like dual GPU rigs.

Stop lying. I don't think anyone around here expects you to say anything other than how great the GTX480 and 580 are. You seemingly have magic cards that perform significantly better than everyone else's standard version. What would we call that? Special nVidia loyality versions?
