Morning question - sequence of cycling and breakfast?

Generally speaking 4 out of 5 days I'll cycle to work. It's not very far - maybe 20 minutes, but it lets me stay in bed longer, I can do a bit of work in the office first thing and then have a shower at work.

At the moment I normally role out of bed, pull on some clothes, hop on the bike and then don't have any breakfast until I'm at my desk - sometimes a fair bit later (c.1 hour).

Is this good, or should I be having something to eat before setting of in the morning. I'm trying to get into a healthy routine at the moment without going crazy.
 
Is it particularly strenuous exercise? What are you looking to gain by eating beforehand? Do you have any goals (lose fat, gain muscle etc)?

I wouldn't really be too worried.
 
No, not very. I just see people commenting that it's good to have a proper breakfast and wondering if its best prior to doing anything or not.
 
Well, without the cycling you should generally eat breakfast at the earliest opportunity. My morning routine for a 18 mile ride is fruit juice and a granola bar pre ride followed by porridge after a shower as soon as I arrive.

For the ride itself what you eat the night before is more important.
 
Effectively fasted cardio. As long as you eat a decent breakfast at work it should be fine. Along with a decent meal the previous evening too.

Indeed.

The OP may find he gets acute halitosis as his body starts melting through fat, however, if he doesn't eat a decent meal at some point in the morning. :)
 
I simply can't eat first thing in the morning or I vomit or I will vomit on my ride, about 20 minutes like yours. I get hungry soon afterwards though, so I make a nice thick smoothy to enjoy on the train. I alternate between something milky, something fruity and something disgracefully sweet and sticky and fit tasting :p
