How big a paint can shall I buy to spray paint my xbox 360? HELP!!

Hi I want to spray paint an xbox 360.

I need primer (2 coats ish), paint (red - 3 coats), and a clear acrylic finish (3 coats)

Does that sound good ??

Also any recommendations on types of paint or manufacturers??

Finally...

how much of each should i buy?? Im a noob!! :D
 
say thesize of an xbox is 1x1x0.3 feet. So that gives an area of just over 3 sq feet. So you want to paint 8 coats, so you need enough to cover 24 sq feet.
 
The OP should be very glad to have people like you around to help him through life's little difficulties like that.

Hope you're on hand when he buys his first house.

BTW - you any good at working out wallpaper requirements?
 
You are looking to spray paint, so ignore everything that has been said thus far in the thread. A primer can't hurt, but its honestly not needed. Stay away from car spray paint, plastikote, krylon, hammerite or anything that you find in a hardware shop, or Halfords etc. Buy one of these - Belton, Montana, Montana 94, Illuminarty or Clash. Out of them, as you are not very experienced with using it, I would strongly, strongly recommend Montana 94 - You will have a much easier time not dripping. Any good art shop should sell it, or at least one of the above. Also, dont use a thin cap - Ask the shop for a soft fat cap, move your hand fast. If you're worried about drips hold the can further away and just apply a few coats to the same place like that. You'll only need 1x 400ml can for the whole thing, assuming you're just doing it one colour.
 
Cover it in wallpaper - quicker, easier and more original than anything else out there. Especially if it's floral wallpaper.

Just remember to cut holes.

The number of cans you buy depends on the size of the can. On the can it tells you how much area the paint will cover. Have you never bought paint before?
 
Erm, where have you got 24sq ft from? That is a massive area compared to an xbox case?

Also didn't see you ask about the acrylic finish. Honestly, my advice would be not to bother - The paints I have suggested are very hard wearing, matt, and look dam nice. If you are desperate to have a gloss finish, get some aerosol varnish and do a very, very thin coat of it.. Its easy to drip with, and looks stupid when it does, especially on flat panels.
 
No, it wont. The paint I've suggested will work fine on near on anything, and not flake. If you go for Belton though, it has a habit of cracking when drying and slightly changing colour through the can if its cold and you don't shake it properly.

At a rough guess, one can of about 500ml of each of the 3 stages will probably be about enough.
If after the second coat on stage 2 or 3 the can feels light get another can.

That's based on my experience with halfords primers + the mess I make undercoating models:p
 
And yet again..

1. You don't need primer with good quality spray paint.

2. You won't need more than one coat.

3. It is heat, chip, etc. resistant.

I've used spraypaint brands like the ones I listed above pretty much daily for art for the last 5 years, I know what I'm talking about.

Hi, If i used Montana 94 paint. How would I need to prepare the surface before hand? Would i need to sand it? With what grits etc etc??
