Bottled water why!

Just recently i had a guy from the water company knock at my door doing a random test on my postcodes domestic water supply.

It registered 0.2 or something on the chlorine chart, where he expected it to be about 1.0 he was so surprised it was so low he tested it twice.... then he said not to worry "cos there was some at least"

i couldn't care any less if i drink tap or bottled water in fact i far more pressing things to worry about that the smell, taste, dissolved mineral content, colour of water. Its the biggest con since the 80s.

I wont pay more than a quid for a 2ltr bottle though if im out and about.

Tap water here is absolutely fine if not more appealing than most bottled brands. I have however been down south many times and it's pretty awful in comparison so I can understand why it would be the preference for most of you lot.

"what is better" is entirely subjective to what you have been brought up on.

Water from London chalk aquifers will certainly screw up your washing machine faster... but i guess you didn't mean that?:p

Its not whats better, but what you're used to, if you grew up somewhere with the worst actual quality water, but its all you ever drank, "clean" water, regarded as higher quality simply wouldn't taste the same. We get used to what we have, even if its bad, or good, whatever, quality has nothing to do with personal preference. There are people around who actually prefer a McD's to a decent burger, or decent chips.

We're creatures of habit, in the two houses I've lived in long term, and a few others places like uni halls and houses I stayed in around uni, I got used to bottled water, and generally prefered sparkling, and its just what I got used to. I can drink Brita filtered water fine, but our tap water tastes like dog poop to me, I'm sure other people think the bottled water I drink is wrank and my tap water is great.

The thing I can't understand is, reasonable people have that opinion in this thread, each to his own basically, but some people just don't seem to understand other people have different types of water and or wouldn't like the tap water they have that they like.

I bottle my tap water, which incidentally (at the moment) is free.

Personally I don't care much for bottled water except sparkling water and will often buy orange juice or something flavoured and still if I ever have to when I'm out and about. A lot of tap waters taste different but it doesn't bother me.

My tap water tastes amazing. I usually prefer it to crappy bottled water because that stuff has so many added minerals it tastes like milk. I only buy it when i'm out and i really need a drink but don't want to pay ridiculous prices for another drink.

I don't understand why someone would do it in the UK, but in other countries it's essential.

I lived in Spain for a bit and you seriously wouldn't want to drink the tap water. Pretty much everyone drank bottled water (it was a ton cheaper than in the UK though)

As I'm in UK ill drink tap water when its available, and if at a night club or generally thirsty. When abroad always bottle water

Or just get a water filter - Britta etc and fill bottles up :D

went to a sewage works when i was at school and saw the brown goo getting filtered down to water then that was shoved back into the water supply , highlight of the tour was a glass of water that they had treated back to drinking water.
(also saw mounds of sweetcorn).

I used to work in a now defunct retail store and they was selling that bottled tap water that coca cola was selling lol. It makes me laugh when people moan at the cost of petrol per litre when they are paying more per litre for bottled water. I moan at the cost of petrol, but then I don't pay over the odds for bottled water. Each to there own I supposed, it has its place for convenience if you are out and about but I just don't understand serial bottled water offenders.

do they recycle sweetcorn ? :p

I have no problem with London tap water, but that might be because it is much better than tap water in South Africa.

I used to use a Brita here, but it's more hassle than I find it is worth.

The only time I buy bottled water is in clubs, and even then I get tap water refills for the rest of the night for free.

I must have a tap that's fed from the hills of Brecon because my tap water is divine :D
