Hi guys, I'm looking for a 50" Plasma with the best possible image for under £1,000, obviously it won't be 3D capable but I'd like it to last 5 years or so and be as reliable as my old Toshiba 36" CRT which hasn't missed a blip in 11 years!

Perhaps a daft question but is now a good time to buy?

My viewing habits per week are roughly as follows:

Sky TV (will obviously include HD) ~15hrs
Movies upscaled DVD, moving to Bluray ~2hrs i.e. one film a week from disc.
Gaming currently 0 (I don't own a console).

So not a massive TV user but I'd still like the best quality image I can get for when I do view anything.

Reason for upgrade is getting rid of the MASSIVE 80kg Toshiba and moving to wall mounted or freestanding 50". Yes I have plenty of space for the correct viewing angle/distance.

Thanks in advance!

Didn't look at it enough to give you an answer there :p I knew what we were going to buy considering we won't be upgrading for years!

Better as in, £200 better?

Specifics would be nice! :D

Yes its a noticable improvement. Deeper blacks, more depth to the image. The brushed metal fram is also nice as well.

I watched them both and ended up buying the 50" V20. great screen

Do you know if that's too big to wall mount?

The thing is even at that size they are still relatively light; imagine how heavy a shelf full of dvds / books are. As long as it's got enough support it should be fine; i guess wall mounts for that size would have more mounting holes

Well I saw them both, but didn't pay much attention. In all fairness the V20 was far far far better then every other TV around it.. so the settings must have been different.

Excellent TV though. The reds in Zulu for example are incredible!

Isn't the V20 just 3D?

One annoying thing about upgrading is I'll lose the 5.1 reciever functionality of my Toshiba, that may sound crap but I tell you it's done me proud for the past 10-11 years, with an external sub it's plenty loud enough too.

Thing is a reciever and satellites, with stands, will add another few hundred at least... and then I need a Bluray player.

I'm wondering if I should just get a Bluray 'all-in-one' system.

I got a panasonic all in one bluray system to go with my plasma and I've got to say I can't really fault it for the money and the girlfriend pleasing aesthetics! It doesn't sound as full as my old full size seperates system but it does a very good job.

get the new lg px990 for £950 with 5 years warranty and its 3d,the pannys suffer from the 50hz bug so if oyu like watching sports it might not be for you
