i5 gaming spec

Hello all,

Been browsing last few days and looking to upgrade to I5 while I have some spare cash. I'm.under the impression that the jump to I7 is not really worth it for gaming. I currently already have a Intel ssd/asus essence stx sound card/corsair 800d case to salvage. So looking for recommendations on a good I5 CPU, motherboard and memory. I also have a scythe mugen cooler if that can be salvaged.

Along side this would like a new gpu as mines currently a 275.

Budget is around £400-500.

Forgot to throw in I have a 750w corsair power supply.

Thank you for the quick replys, I've seen in other threads that rjc is the man on I5? Would those specs allow for a decent overclock?
 
I mostly play, Starcraft II on max, Football manager 2010, WOW and Crysis.

Crysis is the only one I have problems with and that is just at the highest settings. I play all games in 1920 x 1080. Most people still have issues with crysis.

I only have major unplayable issues when in a particularly hectic fight on crysis.

With what we have specced you will have a very good settings on WOW.
 
Playing at that res myself 24". Thanks for the advice. Might throw that little bit more at it and push for a 470

Fine specs. i5 with a decent GPU eats anything (although with my OCd 5850 and i5 @ 4GHz I still only just stay above 30fps at times in maxed out crysis 1920x1200 - sigh). Don't lament having no i7 too much - it doesn't offer gamers anything worth shouting about over an i5 :)

This.. I'm running this setup along with a MSI GTX 470 and its great.

i5 @ 4.ghz - Very easy to overclock
470 - 800/1600 - Very easy to overclock

Very stable too in a midi case.
