No it isn't, it's just the 2nd reading. This is just to decide if it's even bother discussing further in committee stage.
We'll never leave GMT.

Switching to CET will be beneficial to the UK economy. If nothing is more important than reducing the deficit as our government claim then switching to CET is the only logical vote. I assume this is a private members bill in any case? therefore it has no chance.

It the bill gets through this is what will happen:

Bill to require the Secretary of State to conduct a cross-departmental analysis of the potential costs and benefits of advancing time by one hour for all, or part of, the year; to require the Secretary of State to take certain action in the light of that analysis; and for connected purposes.

So an analysis and possibly a trial.

Im in scotland and the they can go get stuffed if they think we should change to this nonsense. GMT for ever. Bunch of euro hippies at lighterlater

Its irrelevant tbh... they're just numbers!

If a business wants to open its doors an hour earlier then there isn't anything stopping it from doing so right now.

I certainly hope we move to CET , will be nice to be in line with most of mainland europe and would save me having to faff around with the multitude of clocks in my house repeatedly. The media really should stop referring to it as Berlin Time though, its clearly done just to try and stir anti-german sentiment. Its CET, its no more Berlin Time than BST is London Time or Manchester Time.

Scotland would benefit from CET, I know that much.

It's always a tossup over economy/child saftey though.

Really? You want to be getting up in the dark for 6 months of the year?

I'm in the south of England and it only just gets light at half 7 at this time of year, 8 is still just light. CET would mean it wouldn't start getting light til half 8 for at least 3 months of the year...

All for, well nothing really as people who work will still be driving back at dusk for most of the time and will see no more sunlight than GMT. :p (again the sun sets at half 4 now, half 5-5 at the earliest so it won't affect those travelling to and from work).

There is only 8 hours of daylight in winter and no matter how you move those 8 hours around you will still be stuck with 8 hours of sunlight.

Scotland would benefit from the secret of fire. Let's not learn to run before we crawl.

I'm rather unfussed about whether we stick to GMT or go over to CET, as long as we get rid of the clocks going forward & backward every year.

Steady yourself there chief. And you do realise you will still be putting them forward and back?

Even if it has benefits? I'm new to this story but just because GMT has been around since all of us were born doesn't mean change is bad? Currency chances, measurements change so why not time if it benefits our market who work along side the european market?

Having said all that, I do agree with people who've said this daylight saving nonsense should end, it's confusing enough!
