Moral / Legal Dilema

Depends on the venue, if it's some corporatised hotel that can take the hit, sod them. Hold onto the money for a little while though.

Rob from the rich.

;)

Explain to the hotel that you believe you have been undercharged. Just because it is a large organisation does not make it OK to steal from them, even because it was their mistake.

As stated in a few posts above you this does involve people. I've had personal experience of having to pay for mistakes made while on the job in similar situations to this, it's not fun knowing that when you thought you were making €80 that day for work you actually ended up owing €20 or whatever!

Go back to the hotel, tell them and if they're nice they'll give you a discount, maybe just charge you half the excess or something. Atleast the bar staff won't get in too much hassle.

Why? Companies are owned by people you know.

well my reasoning may seem unfair to you, but in my world, I'm not concerned about people I dont know, I accept that in life, if I make a mistake, I pay for it one way or another, so I gladly profit from others mistakes

Hi there

Well thanks for all the input guys - just thought you'd all like to know the decision has been made and the money has been spent! We've ordered and received 95 shot glasses in a presentation box which we had specially engraved for the event:

The bags now finished look like this:

And they've been breeding :p

They all consist of:

+ the shot glass and a selection of swizzels and Maoam sweets ;)

The event takes place Sat night which is why my living room looks like a bomb site at the moment. I don't expect everyone to agree with the decision made but it's done now and should further consequences occur due to this discrepancy then we'll deal with them at the time.

Thanks to everyone for their help and assistance on this matter and on previously advising for further additions for the bags :)

That amount of money isn't going to make a huge difference to you if you keep it. Until someone notices the mistake and it's discovered you pocketed the money.

Then it will make a huge difference.

Did five people not have a drink who had a meal (152 vs 157)? OR were you overcharged on the meal by £150 (5 extra people)?

We've not kept it though - it's been put back into the pockets of those who paid by means of a gift in their goody bag

No, it would appear there's five people attending who are either tea total or have been designated driver for their party.

On the shot glass is says graduation 2010, class of 2007...isn't the whole 'class of' thing meant to be the graduation year? What if they retook a year or something :p

Tell them as soon as a manager finds the mistake he will deduct from the staffs wages. Years ago when my sister worked in hotel and if anyone did a runner the management would dock the staffs wages.
