The Desire has a pretty good [by that I mean i'm not paying for it] sat nave built it. It seems to do the job.

what I would like to know is, what is a decent in car cradle so that I can mount the phone to my dash or window so that I can use it whilst driving.

not looking to pay outa my ears so budget items preferential =D

thanks

You stick the backplate on to the case, everything thing you need to know is in my linkthrough via lifehacker posted above.

Got on on the Bay for £9.99 and it's perfect for the job. Suction is strong and the phone doesn't move about.

Yup that looks good!

I also have a ebay phone holder for the Desire but it's too bulky for storage and use and feels cheap, as if it will break/loosen after a few months usage.

DIY method is better, sleeker!

Buy the appropriate Brodit Proclip for your car. They cost about a tenner and you won't get a better base for your phone holder.
Then attach any budget holder you like onto the Proclip.

bought one from o2 store that is generic, it fits really well and holds it great.
was 9.99, i had to ask for it though as it wasnt on the shelf

Why not get a disc that sticks to the centre of your dash and suction the mount on to that (pictured below)? It's pretty visually flush and doesn't look out of place unless your dash is an odd colour....like pink.
