Hi there.

I need some advice about getting some Public Liability Insurance. I have applied for a one-day permit on the London Underground to go around the whole network recording sounds of the various trains for a project I am doing at University.

I applied for this permit and everything seems fine but they have asked me to send them a copy of my Public Liability Insurance policy

I'm not too sure what this is or how I go about getting it. I'm not actually a 'business' as it were, I'm just a student recording the sounds of trains for one day on the London Underground. So how would I go about about getting this insurance?

Thanks for the help!

I think tres has dealt with this before, when he was trying to organize a triathlon. Might be worth sending him a message through trust?

A quick look at their site found this application for non professionals:

https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/corporate/media/lufilmoffice/student-non-professional-permit/default.aspx

it says "A current policy of insurance, providing cover for death and/or personal injury to any person and loss of, or damage to, any property is required."

Give them a call and ask what type of insurance you need, then call Towergate or whoever and ask for a quote.

Yes this is where I did the online application form. Ok so I need to search around for a Public Liability policy then. £100 seems a little expensive though for just one day of recording.

Thanks again for the help

I would be tempted to just to mount an electret mic (something like a Sanken COS 11) onto your collar and carry a recorder in your pocket, so one would be any the wiser and you would get some good quality recordings.

Failing that, maybe speak to someone at uni? They might have a policy which covers you?
