I know the game is aging now, but ive got a question

Ive ordered a new build recently which includes:

4gb ddr3 ram
GTX 460
Phenom II x2 3.2ghz Black Edition

What kind of FPS will I get in the open, max settings ?

Thanks in advance

Should max it at 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 pretty much, should be 60fps constant with probably a few rare drops.

Yes but you will not notice it with V-sync on which you should have, the game will run really smooth do not worry.:)

My rig seems to be maxed with HDR, no AA at 1600x1200. I spawned 12 instances of Umbra in Cheydinhal with a maxed level 1 character for lulz, still seemed ok.

So much health, cant OHK her with the ridiculous lightning bolt thing from the dev kit :(

One thing you should be prepared for is loading stutter, the gamebryo engine as it's implemented in Oblivion has major bottlenecks when loading new geometry, you could have the fastest pc on the block and it's still going to stutter when entering new cells.

That mod greatly helps to reduce the stuttering (though I doubt anything will ever completely eradicate it) and also fixes a lesser known issue where the engine actually runs at 64hz, so without this mod (or a monitor that supports 64hz vsync) you will never get that lovely smooth vsync you get in other games.

Enjoy :)

I'd go modded. This is one of the most absorbing games I played a few years back. I should really play it again now on full HD as I had it running on medium on my x800gto :D

Ok, well I might try the mods then. I've only just emerged into the daylight near the start of the game, so I won't lose much saved game time.

Just hope it mods ok with Steam.

What is one of the recommended mods? Having a look at Planet Elder Scrolls atm and there seems to be loads of them!

This fixes the microstutter and the 64hz bug. The game always stutters due to harddrive. Only way to sort that out is an SSD. But get this file and do some tweaks i have hardly noticed any stutter now.

I remember having pretty bad stuttering with SLI 8800GTX's in Oblivion. I upgraded my oldish Seagate raid array to a fast Samsung F1 drive and the stuttering seemed to disappear.

The unofficial patches, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO) and Martigen Monster Mod (MMM) are the big ones I remember. Also get "quest reward leveler", and try out some of the companion mods (theres one for chuck norris!).

OOO sorts out the screwy levelling system, and MMM adds tons of extra monsters for you to fight..... most are of such quality it's impossible to tell what's part of the mod and what was made my bethesda.
A lot of oblivion's scalability comes from it's mods. Your pc won't break a sweat with vanilla, but having the extra power will allow you to install high-res textures and mods which increase the number of npc's.

i had similar problems with fallout 3, as theyre on the same game engine, swapped to a new HDD and the stuttering almost went completely

Cheers, jimbob27. :) Will have a look out for those ones.

No probs. They're just some of the basic ones to start you off. It's one of those games where the community has really gone to town with the mods. As you're playing and get more familiar with the game mechanics you'll find things you don't like or things that annoy you(as vanilla does have some pretty big flaws), and in almost every case you'll be able to find a little mod that sort out the problem.

i've got similar spec and running the game heavily modded with hi-res texture packs aswell as better lighting/weather effects etc and still get 30fps min in populated areas and average 45-60fps in other areas.
