Hey

I secured myself a 2nd interview at a place called Bombardier and I got this like information pack and I was just finally sitting down and reading it and noticed it said in their D&A Policy:

"Every candidate must provide two refs. from previous employment"

I don't have any references :( Thats my first problem

Then my second one is that we have to do this medical and says I must be able to provide valid in-date photo ID which again I dont have ANY ID with my photo

interviews tuesday, do i have any hope? :/

Have you not had any previous jobs you could ring up tomorrow and ask for a reference? No passport or driving license?

edit---->

Woooo, 11,001 posts. :D

Academic references?
References of character by a trusted member of society?

How do you not have a passport/driving licence?

Well ring up the company tomorrow and ask if the passport will be okay. Even though it's out of date I don't see why that would be a problem. Then as Ahleckz says about them references, you should be able to get one from college / high school, unless it has to be specifically a reference from an employer.

I had to get a reference once for something, I forget what, and it had to be from a trusted type person. I had the Mayor do it!

Guessing you weren't asked to put people on your CV / application that could provide references to gain the 1st interview in the first place?

Would have thought that would be info they would want right away rather than later on.

I wouldn't worry too much about the references, it's probably a stock phrase that's in the paperwork, and everyone's got to start somewhere. Offer college or personal references instead as suggested by others.

The rail industry has a very strict D&A policy, and they are likely to be sticklers over the photo ID to confirm it's you that gave the samples. I'd ask about whether your old passport would be OK but would expect them to say 'no' (I've never understood this - it's still proof of ID after all).

Before ringing them to explain the situation, I'd find out how long it would take to get your driving licence or passport renewed. The medical itself might not be on Tuesday, so you may have time yet, or they may be prepared to defer the medical if you get through the interview.

Good luck!

You can apply for a passport in person, though i doubt you'd get an appointment in time plus you'd need the relevant paperwork done. Ring 0300 222 0000 to see if you can get an appointment then run round like a blue arse fly getting the form filled in if you do!

You can get a passport at 48 hours notice if you go to Liverpool or London IIRC. As for references, just get character references or academic ones. Job sorted.

every conpany I work for goes bancrupt (nothing to do with me)

assuming there is a sensible reason you cannot provide ref its not likley to be an issue...

the last 2 jobs I jsut gave the name of a friend who used to work for the company...

Old passports can't be used as ID as they could have been passed on to you as obviously the original owner could have got a new passport and thus not need the old one.

In addition, passports have a life span of ~10 years. Meaning that if I was to pass my passport on to a friend today then my friend would only have to look like he could POSSIBLY be me when I was 15... As long as the hair colour matches and he has no obvious birth marks then this is quite simple really.

Either way, quite rightly in my opinion, both points combined are why you can't use out of data passports pretty much anywhere. Even bouncers won't (or shouldn't) accept an out of date passports at bars / clubs.

However, in your case Noel I'd bring along your old passport and play ignorance. I'd also get straight on the case and order a passport through the normal means stating that you can provide it as soon it as soon as you get it.

As far as references go, yeah, everyone else seems to have already had good suggestions.

If you're 22 it's not that long since you left school so maaaaybe a guidance counselor if you were on good terms or maybe a lecturer from college or uni? No family friends in Law, Medicence, Cops, Fire Dept or perhaps work at the council?
