Hi, I'm having trouble running my OCZ platinum stably and stumbled across the OCZ forums where some advice is given for the board I am using.

I have managed to set the timings but am a bit confused about one direction given.

It says to set the "CPU/NB Voltage" to 1.35, but I cant seem to find the option in the bios, all I have is CPU/NB frequency, CPU over voltage and CPU overclock.

Do they mean the CPU frequency ?

I'm using an AMD Phenom II 955 be

Any help would be great, cheers.

Im not familiar with your board but what they mean is what they say. It's a voltage adjustment they are referring to which is totally different from frequency.

What voltage adjustments does your motherboard allow?

What kit is it? . . what speed/timings/voltage etc? . . . stock system/HT ref.clock or?

Post up a screenie of CPU-z showing the [SPD] tab if you are able? . . .

VDDNB Over Voltage

Not sure if that is needed? . . . that's quite high?

Hi, the RAM kit model number is OCZ3P16004GK. I have tried running them at stock timings of 7-7-7-24 @ 1.9v, although I had to manually set the voltage to get my system to boot into Windows without the screen freezing.

I'm having trouble getting them to run stably atall, let alone at the specified 1600mhz they and the board should be capable of. In single channel mode they seem to run a little better, with only the occasional screen freeze during video playback and games. In dual channel its pretty much a nightmare with bsod errors occurring fairly frequently.

I have tested both modules separately using Memtest and the Windows memory diagnostic which both returned no faults.

Here is the CPUID screen as requested :

Thanks for your help so far

Can you post memory tab of CPU-Z as well?

I'll upload screens of where to find the option in a few minutes as well ; ), however you shouldn't need to put it on 1.35 unless OCing high.

What you've been looking for is the option highlighted in the 2nd screenshot.
You might also try the settings from the 3rd one below and see if that helps ;).

You've got your mem in wrong slots mate, it's running in single channel : ).
If the kit is stated as 1.9, put 2.0 through it and see if that helps, some mobos undervolt a bit.

I know it's in the wrong slots, I mentioned in the previous post that is is even more unstable when trying to run in dual channel, producing BSOD's and system freeze ups at least 3 times a day. Running in single channel is more stable right now and produces maybe 3 freeze ups a week with no BSOD's.

I think I'm going to bin the Platinum kit and go for some Ripjaws instead, I've heard they are pretty faultless on my motherboard compared to the OCZ kit which seems to have reams and reams of support threads open on the Asus Evo.

Cheers for the help, I'll have a go at 2v although I can feel the RAM getting pretty toasty already running 1.9v

Looks like the voltage tweak to 2.0v did the trick, all be it at a lower CAS latency :

This is the first time I have ever seen this RAM boot up in dual channel mode at 1600mhz. I won't hold my breath at it being stable for long but so far so good ! If it proves to be stable I may try and reduce the timings to the 7-7-7-24 that the kit is rated at.

Thanks a lot for your help :D

Are you sure ? I read on another forum that the Trc timing should be no less than the value of Tras + Cl.

Oh wait, yours is 1333mhz, thought it's 1600mhz c7 ; ).

Anyways, what settings does it say on the sticker?

It is 1600mhz, or at least it should be. The sticker timings say 7-7-7-24 @ 1.9v but I have quickly come to learn that those timings mean absolutely nothing using my mobo !

This is the kit I have : http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr3_pc3_12800_platinum_edition

Since the last post I've had a couple of freeze ups so I think it's time to try some different RAM, definately not OCZ though, this kit has been the biggest pain in the backside ever.
