I recently upgraded my pc with a new processor Amd athlon ii quad core I basically only play wow and my budget is 100 pounds. I was thinking of a gts 450 or a 5770 which would be better?

"Borrow" 15 quid and get a 768MB GTX 460. It'll be significantly better than a GTS 450.

Asus GTX 460 768MB

That is one of the best prices around for a 768MB GTX 460. Can't find anything better for the price.

ATI 5770 v 768MB GTX 460

Plus you get a game which you could sell for a around a tenner

+1

This is an amazing deal for a great card.

Also bear in mind that the ASUS card is also slightly overclocked - so it will perform even better than the stock GTX 460 768MB shown in that performance comparison.

If WOW is all you play, you really should have gotten a Phenom II X2 instead of the Althon II X4...

But guess it's too late to do anything about that...

Anyway, for graphic card...definitely go for the GTX460 768MB in that price range.

Na wow uses quad core now dual core won't be as good as quad for cata
I don't know how much change would the Cata update would make, as far as I know, graphic wise it will be improve, but I doubt it would be hugely different from the existing coding on the CPU side considering it is basically the root of the game, which I don't think can be easily improved upon (especially with the game dated back to so many years ago). WOW is "support Quad" on paper, but it doesn't really make good use of extra cores. As it stand, extra cores is barely contributing to increasing frame rate of the game.

But I do 'hope' Blizzard will really get their act together and actually work on maximising the use of Quad-cores with the update.

Just recently I saw someone with a Phenom II X4 955BE overclocked to 3.8GHz and 5870 saying he's not happy with the performance he's getting in WOW. The 5870 clearly isn't the problem, so it has to be CPU limitation.

Well, like I said it don't matter now since you already got the CPU, so just leave it...

I'd agree with the two people above, 'borrow' £15 and get a GTX 460 768mb over a GTS 450 it would be well worth it.
