Hey im currently thinking of upgrading my PC, after the last PSU and hdd blew its not felt the same, some of my fans arnt working for example (more about that at the bottom)

My current sepcs ( Its over 2 years old now) are:

Graphics: Zotac GeForce GTX+ 9800 2gb
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.40GHz (Over clocked to 3.02 GHz)
Motherboard: Abit ip35 pro xe
Ram: 4gb Duel channel
HDD: 1x 150g and 1x 300gb - This got replaced by the guy who sorted my pc so know idea if its any good
PSU: Coolmaster M250 (600w) - Also got replaced

I was looking at getting http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-169-OE&groupid=43&catid=1892&subcat=@ a later date buying the parts seperately and putting it all together

System Specification
- Case: Xigmatek Midgard Midi Tower - Black
- Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W
- CPU: Intel Core i5 760 2.93GHz overclocked to 4.00GHz
- Motherboard: Gigabyte P55-USB3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
- Cooler: Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU Cooler
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
- Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
- Graphics Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 OC 1024MB GDDR5
- Sound: Realtek 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
- Optical Drive: LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive
With a blue ray player instead any maybe more Vram

So worth the upgrade or not?

Also problem I mentioned from above, Currently none of the fans on my case work since I got it back from being fixed. I think it may be down to the PSU not being able to handle it since I had a 750w Corsair one. Ive tried enabling the fans in the bios but it restarted made a horrid noise ( fans moving im guessing or something ) which then made it turn of and revert back to old settings again where it turned on fine.

Currently the only fans ive had running since it was fixed was the CPU one, im sure that cant be healthy for it :X

Thanks if you post there

Hi and welcome to the forums :) I would try disconnecting all of the fans except for the CPU fan and then try connecting one case fan and powering on to see what happens (then power down, try another fan and repeat). How many fans do you have in your case in total? It sounds like one of the fans has failed and thus the horrid noise you heard at one point.

Regarding an upgrade - I would hold off until the New year when Intel release their new Sandybridge chips personally if you want to upgrade as you have a decent enough system in the meantime to keep you going.

thanks :)

I have 4 (2 at front, 1 on top 1 at the back) in my case fan and never had any issues with them before It broke earlier. And im not intending on upgrading asap so ill be leaving it a while just looking around to see what people are saying currently.

And regarding only the CPU fan running, if that particually healthy for the computer in general? if there is only 1 fan acutally running, its got plenty of gaps for hold air to get in, even without the fans moving tho

Not really as there's going to be a build up of warm air inside your case. At the very least you need an exhaust fan to expell the warm air but having an intake fan is advisable also. The only reason im inclined to think one of your fans is faulty is because of the horrid noise you described at one stage.

Sounds like you have a Q6600 there. is 3Ghz the max you can get out of it? If it is then it sounds like you have the B3 stepping model which is still a nice CPU. If its a G0 then it should reach 3.6 with a decent cooler.

If you did want to upgrade / need to then i would look items which you could use on a system in the future.
If you games then a new Graphics card? Like such would be a nice boost.
If you think your HDDs maybe keeping you down then maybe a Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II

Depends on what you want from your system. But both of these would carry across to a new rig.

Does sounds like the PSU might of taken out one or more of your case fans. Maybe test them one by one like ^ ^ said and replace if needed.

Im guessing only I got lucky that only fans and my HSS got screwed with the psu then?

And chances are the graphics card is one of the first things ill be looking at, any maybe getting working fans ^.^

Thanks for the advice everyone
