{SOLVED} -- I've removed my chipset drivers. Really upset. Need support asap. ---{SOLVED}

Please someone help. I'm screwing.

Using my mum's comp at the minute.

Bought a new graphics card, but I removed my old one including the chipset drivers.

I know it is really stupid, but I didn't think this would happen.

Comp starts up with mouse and keyboard working, but then they don't work so I can't log into my windows.

Now, I'm just getting a system missing message.

Please help.

Uninstalling chipset drivers shouldnt remove your operating system, See if you can boot into safemode. Hold down f8 on start up.
If you have just installed a new gpu its most likely you have pulled a sata or power cable out of your mobo or hardrive.

I'm getting this message now:

Windows could not start up because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\windows/system32/config/system

I've checked all cables.

Please help. I want to cry. I've just spent money on my comp getting it all done up as well. :(

I'm not sure I've uninstalled my chipset drivers, but I've Googled it and that is the conclusion Im coming to as I completely removed my previous drivers for my graphics card so I could get this oe working.

right, is this a brand new OS with no data on?

if yes then insert OS disk and boot from it and see if their is a repair option if there if it does boot from the disc dont go any further just post saying it boots on the forums

if no then is the data important?

I don't know where the OS disk it.

And yes there is important information on there. Lots of pictures, a story I'm working on etc.

:(

how did you remove your old drivers?

This. Also "chipset" drivers usually means motherboard drivers, which is something else entirely - unless you didn't have a proper graphics card to start with, and your graphics were being provided by the motherboard.

Tried safe mode before, but the keyboard and mouse are not working which won't allow for the computer to update the hardware for things to work.

It is only suddenly that I've been getting this other message.

I am running Windows XP.

I just remember going into 'Add or Remove' and removing the complete Nvidia package.

:(

I then restarted system and ever since this.

I've been trying to sort it all day.

The mouse and keyboard will not work in any mode.

I have Googled this problem and it is saying about removing chipset drivers. Saying something about creating a bootable disc- ERD Commander? Which is a struggle anyway as I'm on dial-up so downloading that probably won't be of luck.

Also, could I just take my hard drive out and put it on this computer so I can at least get mouse and keyboard working so I can get into the windows screen for the hardware to be automatically installed again.

you might be able to take the hard drive out and plug it into the machine you are using atm and then go into local disc>>>users>>>your name>>>documents and get the data from there.

What is PS2?

PS2 is a old way to connect mouse and keyboard it looks like this:

you will find it on the end of your keyboard/mouse lead

Your going to need to find your OS disc.

Well the good news is that if you have a proper Microsoft branded Windows CD/DVD, the worst thing that can happen is you'll have to do a repair install, which will leave your photos and other important documents un-touched, but may require you to re-install programs (such as Office) before you can open them.

Unfortunately this isn't guaranteed - you have a "recovery CD", branded with the company logo of your PC (packard bell, dell, etc) - in which case don't touch it, because those things will erase your data.

You might not have a recovery CD, but instead might have an option to "recover" or "restore" the system when the computer is booting up - these also tend to destroy all data so shouldn't be used (until you have recovered your documents).

I think your only hope is going to be to put the disk in another machine (not as the primary boot disk), boot the other machine, get your data off your fubared disk, then put it back in your PC and do a fresh OS install.
