is this power supply i got as a replacement okay? respectable?

hi overclockers, i used to have a powercool 950 watt modular, and id never heard of it, and i had my suspicions and low and behold, its been giving me lockup problems, so i got a replacement of a coolermaster GX 750.. now im not entirely happy though the value is around the same so i cant exactly moan, but i CAN dispute and he could change for a thermaltake 850 but i dont know what model ill get and itl cost me abomb in p+p.

what im asking is, is the gx 750 a reliable psu ? will 750 watts power my system ? see sig, also i have 2 cathodes, 2 hard drives, 4 fans and an lcd fan controller.

discuss :)

just want a quick answer really as its sitting on my bed and i darent open the wrapping incase its not that good and i have to send it back :P

It should be more than enough. In fact I'd go as far to say that you could add another GTX 470 to your rig for SLi & it still wouldn't grumble.

Hopefully you haven't opened it yet, because it can't deal with heat. Read these two reviews to see what I mean:

To summarise, when you try to draw more than 600 watts from it under a PSU intake temperature of 40 degrees or more it will shut down, presumably due to OTP. One of it's other problems is that it has out of spec ripple on the 3.3V rail when fully loaded.

I would definitely not recommend it. Even if it possibly can deal with your rig, at least it will be mounted in the bottom of the case where it should hopefully be drawing in cool air even when stressed.

the gx 750 isn't the best psu around.
i'd send it back. it's more of a 2008 average quality psu =/ that translates to very bad for typical psu's released nowadays. if you don't mind dishing out 100+ the NZXT hale90 is brilliant

otherwise you can go with a HX corsair, or even TX corsair.

ive installed it now :/ it was a replacement from the cusome pc builder, ill have to make do, itseems a LOT quieter than my last one, runs quite cool, i can always sell it a little later on and get abetter one when i have some money

well i took all your advice, i sent it back and i was falling alseep just now and ther was a knock at the door, fed ex - corsair 850 watt :) so a good one eh ? :)

You've done well to go from a Powercool 950 to a CoolerMaster 750 even if it is a drop in wattage

yeah :) but like someone pointed out, i dont think the 950 was a true 950, i think it worked out at 720 watts on 12v rail, well at least i should get good wattage now, cool running and no spiking on the 3v :)

Corsair HX850W, nice one,;) even the Thermaltake, if it was a toughpower model, would have been an excellent choice, run an HX850 with the rig in sig, excellent quiet psu.

I had another company (not Ocuk) try and give me a Powercool psu as an RMA replacement and I made it clear that I wasn't going to take it
