It's a job at the end of the day but the fact is you're gonna be telling people you work at an Apple Store of all places, you may even want to commit a foxconn after some time :O

Oh i like their products i just don't like how they roll them out and overcharge.
Yup - I don't think anyone could have a problem with their products that are, at the end of the day, functional. The problem comes in with the ridiculous pretense that what Apple is something other than a 'hip' but more expensive Microsoft.

I used to work in a store too, quite possibly the one you're going to the seminar for given your location. I also attended around 5 seminars as an employee, so I know what goes on there.

Essentially, be friendly, confident and outgoing. You need these qualities to be an effective retail employee, and that's what they're looking for. They don't give a crap about your technology experience or skills, because they can (and will) teach you that. If you're going for a Genius/FRS interview they will want to know your background, but if it's for a specialist role you won't need it.

If you don't get through it's not because you didn't want to bum SJ (typically anyone wearing an Apple shirt, or that demonstrates excessive fanboy behaviour will usually be unsuccessful) but because you were shy, or were overshadowed by more confident/more noticeable people there.

PS. www.ifoapplestore.com is very, very accurate. I'm sure it will be useful.

After a few people have said about the wages being pretty good for retail, can you be more specific? How much are 'specialists' on per hour?

Standard rate is currently just shy of £8 an hour starting wage. Typical 5% raise a year. I was on a bit more but I had a fair bit of experience and was asked how much I was after in my interview, and they gave me what I wanted, which was, it turns out, a bit more than standard. There were a couple of people I worked with that negotiated very good money when they started but that's unusual.

When I joined the Creative team I was on a starting salary of £20650 plus medical, dental and stuff. Genius team are on the same pay scale as the Creatives.

Yeah, what PardonTheWait said, but there are regional variances. I was on £7.27 as a Specialist up North.

When I started it was £7.70, I'm not 100% whether it's gone up, stayed the same or gone slightly down, I was told by someone that the Creative/Genius wage at least had actually dropped a little bit for new starters, and that they thought the Specialist wage had as well, but no one's flat out asked any of the new starters what they're on. Well they probably have by now but I don't know for sure.
