What's the best way to get the most out of a new phone battery? When people talk about putting the battery through cycles, is it a case of fully charging and then letting it empty completely or is it something different?

That's what I've basically been doing with my DHD. Charging it up and then allowing it to fully discharge (or get to about ~5%) and then charging again.

Helps it to attain maximum capacity/stability etc and from what others have been saying it really does get better (for the Desire HD anyways).

Not for new batteries but the good old fridge trick helped my battery life out on my year and a bit old G1 which was struggling to make 24hours from charge to charge with low use. Cycled the battery from full to empty and got it to the point where it wouldn't switch on, chucked it in the fridge for 24hours, popped it back in the phone switched it on to find it with 19% battery, let it run down then recharged it.

Worked like a charm, don't have to remember to charge my phone everyday now.

Isn't all this for the dark ages.

I thought those techniques are for older technology and have no affect on modern day batteries?

Thats my understanding, deep discharges was for older technology but for Li On batterys deep discharge is not a good thing to do. Just keep them charged up as much as possible,
