I've removed my chipset drivers. Really upset. Need support asap.

It is the new one's. Has a pink cable going from the hard drive to a thing on mother board. Then a sata. I think it is called a sata, going to the power supply unit.

And your mum's is the same? Plug your hard drive into your mums leaving hers still in there as it is right now. I.e. plug your hard drive into a different SATA port on your mum's mobo, and also into your mum's PSU. Then boot and you should be in your mum's windows as you are now but with your Hard drive also attached to your mum's computer. Then you'll be in a position to retrieve your data. Do and report back.

I fear this is only gonna save your data. You are going to need your (or any) XP cd to sort out your corrupted OS.

OK.

The good news is that I have my computer's hard drive now on my mum's computer and all my documents are there.

I'm not ignoring anyone, but just trying to go through the steps that I posted from another website. Just struggling as I can't find the 'security' tab when right clicking, selecting properties from the 'System Volume Information' folder.

:)

Once its plugged into your mums computer, could you not delete the windows folder off the corrupt one and copy the one from your mums over?, or if this is not possible copy accross the various missing files?
I reckon you could do something like this as the actual Windows Files themselves are the same on any operating system, providing they are running the same OS.

Also if this is not possible i believe there is a way to create a bootable xp disc from a non-corrupted installation, i tihnk there is a program called ntune which can do this, you need to locate the i386 folder in the windows directory though, as far as i know some manufactures put this folder on the hard drive and some don't?

So all in all if you cannot simply copy over the good installation and replace the bad one you are pretty much stuffed without the O/S disc.

Glad you're getting somewhere. The security tab wont be there on XP home if I recall. That's only on Pro which has more in depth permissions features. You could try the above, if not initially with the whole directory, perhaps try restoring just the file you corrupted from your mum's install to your own. I dont like your chances of fixing it to be honest :(

I think if worse comes to worse, I'm not bothered about losing my files.

All I want right now is a system that works. Even if I lose my pictures and documents.

I've gone past caring now and just want this sorted.

I either need to borrow an installation disk of my OS or go out and buy one which I really don't want to do.

:(

I thought you said you could access your documents and files on your mum's computer?? So copy them onto her hard drive. Then they are saved whatever happens to your hard drive - even if you have to wipe it.

Yes I can, but I can't 'wipe it' as I have no OS disks.

What I think has happened, but I haven't explained it well because I don't know much technical stuff (but I am learning) is that I've uninstalled my mobo drivers by mistake.

I did this, not knowing obviously what would happen, because my new graphics card wasn't displaying a temperature so I thought something must have been wrong.

I think this is what I've done because like I said, I removed the Nvidia drivers completely and it was only until I re-booted my computer that I've had problems ever since.

I definitely uninstalled Nvidida Physx, Nvidida Drivers. Before I re-booted my comp I remember my dial-up Internet failing.

I can't remember what it said, but it wouldn't let me dial it.

Sorry. I can't explain this well as I'm not too sure of the fault myself and what made this happen, but it was obviously the uninstalling of the Nvidia which then led to more problems when I kept re-setting my comp to try and sort it. Now I have a corrupt system32 because of that.

:)

If I've somehow deleted my motherboard chipset, will this be sorted by repairing my OS if I manage to get hold of a disk?

I think getting hold of that disk is my only hope at the minute as other options available on the Internet seem really complex.

nForce chipset mobo perchance?

I think so.

NForce chipset. I put my specs in another thread so I can check.

This might not be the problem. I'm probably just clutching at straws trying to think of what could have caused this and how to resolve it.

I bought my computer about a year a go now off the Internet. Come to think of it I'm not even sure an OS disk came with it as Windows XP Professional was already installed on it.

I'm rather sure even though I'm not one to know much about this, that it has happened as a result of me turning the computer back on and off by holding down the power button. Googling this it says that can cause corrupted registery, but I wouldn't have had to do that if I didn't have the problem of my mouse and keyboard locking up on sign on anyway.

Just like to say thank you, to you, and everyone for helping me with this. I hope we get it sorted. It really will bother me until I get this done now. :(

I wish I hadn't touched the damn thing in the first place. I'd installed my PSU nicely, my monitor and my graphics card, but it was only because the temperature wasn't showing in Speccy that I thought something was wrong and decided to unstall all of the Nvidida options.

Lesson learnt, I just need to resolve this now.

:)

Send me your address via trust and i will send you some OS disks...also give me some information on what mobo you have and i will download all drivers to a CD for you.

How nice of you. I'm touched.

I would definitely have taken you up on that, but I've sorted it now and am really happy. :D

Basically, I followed the steps I posted earlier in the thread.

I had to write out the whole thing word for word which took up about three sheets of paper. There was no way to access this on my mum's computer to do what it said so needed to write it all out. Went through it step to step. Did it all, changing names and copying the files as it said.

Then put my dead hard drive back in my computer and it worked. I nearly screamed. lol.

Then had another problem of loading up to start screen and mouse and keyboard freezing, as originally happened, but seemed to solve this by removing a slot of ram.

So then with my keyboard and mouse working, my internet wouldn't work. I had the option to do a system restore so restored it to before all my new upgrades arrived. Then re-installed my new graphics card, and touch wood (looks for some wood) so far it is all going brilliantly.

I am really over the moon and proud of myself. I really thought I was stuffed.

My OS backups, drives etc are in a folder in my document and I've now burned them to CD-R so I have a copy of my Operating System.

A happy ending.

Thanks so much for the offer, and thank you to everyone else helping me.

Really appreciated and I can enjoy the X Factor tonight knowing I can chat about it on another of the forums I use.

:D :)

I couldn't access the internet at the time because I had to do the procedure in safe mode so that is why I had to copy the whole thing out word for word.

:)

I... I almost wish it had stayed broken now :p We tried to help you, and this is how you repay us? Watching the X Factor and blogging about it?

I feel so ashamed :p

I just have a minor issue left now and I've sorted everything.

I am using a mouse that is connected via the old PS/2 I think it is called. Basically it is a wireless mouse, the PS/2 for mouse and USB for keyboard, but I don't use the wireless keyboard and instead just use a wired one.

I have other USB like my Internet connection which is connected via USB then the phone like goes into that, if that makes sense?

But why won't this other mouse I want to use work? It is a wireless one too, but different. It is USB. You plug the usb stick in and that should be it.

Says it is working all fine in device manager, but it isn't.

:( thanks.

Glad your main problem is sorted and hopefully has been a good learning experience for you (even if it was a little painful)

Two possible reasons I can think of:

1) batteries in the mouse are dead/ need charging
2) on your mouse (and on the wireless receiver for the mouse) are two buttons, they might be labelled "sync" or something like that.

You have to press the button on the receiver, then press the button on the mouse. After that they're sort of bonded together, so the receiver knows it's working with that mouse and not some other nearby mouse.
