the standard intel cooler that came with the Q8300 is massively bending the board when i try and fit it.. i know they a pain in the arse to fit but never seen one this bad before.

opinions?

I have never seen the stock coolers (significantly) bend a board before - it would suggest that the motherboard isn't correctly mounted.

Yes it is normal that the board bends. If you check the 775 mechanical and engineering tech document you will be able to find the max value that a board should bend, usually a few mm.

Try to support the socket from underneath while you fit the cooler. (you may want to fit the cooler to the motherboard prior to fitting the motherboard in the case.)

Oh yes make sure you are fitting it to the board before the board is installed in the case otherwise it can be very tricky. (Sorry I assumed everybody does it like this)

Hey Neil :)

the Intel® LGA775 stock heatsink or any heatsink that used the standard Intel® push-pins nearly always causes the board to bend/warp slightly . . . I wouldn't worry about it . . .

If you think its a problem then you would need to either order some kind of backplate/thumbscrew kit or just buy a new 3rd party heatsink that comes supplied with its own mounting/backplate . . .

morning

was fitting it out of the case.. still really not comfortable with the bend.

can anyone recommend a low profile replacement for an itx board pref bolt through?
