240mm radiaotor big enough?

I'm getting an I5 and a 460 and want to know whether I can run them both on a 240mm radiator (with 120mm Noctua fans) with a laing D5 pump.

Will it handle them both at stock and with the I5 overclocked?
 
Should be fine. I ran a 4.5Ghz q9650 and a 5850 and a 9800gtx+ with a d5 and a double rad no problems.

Hi, Use a good air cooler on the video card i.e:- Gigabyte GTX460 Windforce, and a dual rad for the CPU. ;););).

It will keep nice and cool on the CPU and Video Card, your CPU Will be below 30*C Idle and 40*C Load. Video Card 34*C Idle and 45*C On Video Card.
 
Depends what temperature you want to achieve.

rads don't particularly effect temperature unless you're using a rad which just flat out isn't good enough, otherwise 1-3C tops

based on him using noctua fans I'm going to guess he's going water cooling for the noise not the temps also those temps with the CPU he's using, he wouldn't get those with chilled water(well maybe the idle temps) about let alone with air

You must be using a pretty careful definition of "flat out isn't good enough" to form that conclusion. Number of radiators is linearly related to the air-water temperature difference, i.e. two 240mm radiators will achieve very nearly half the ( water - ambient ) temperature that a single 240mm radiator would. So is a radiator which is good enough one that achieves a 5 degree delta?

If so I tentatively agree, but think you've phrased your reply misleadingly. I don't think I'd be happy with temperatures for a 460 & i5 on a 240mm, but the OP might be.

edit: I can't be bothered to find out what a 460gtx power consumption is, or an i5 for that matter. A 240mm radiator with 1600rpm fans has a C/W value of approx 0.04 K/W. So if you find out their power consumption, add them up, add 30W for the D5, then multiply this by 0.04 you'll get (roughly) your expected steady state water temperature. If the wattage is over 150 (which it easily could be, my i7 at 4ghz is something like 250W) then I believe HW91 would conclude your 240mm radiator is inadequate.

did you have a vac sucking the air threw the rad theres no way you had clocks like that on a 240 rad

Twin fans sucking the air thorugh the rad and out of the top of the case.

cpu maxed out at 77C with prim95 so not the best temps but 100% stable. In fact, I could bench at 4.85Ghz.

5850 maxxed out at 42C but with gaming in the high 30's.

The key to my good loop was having well matched watercooling items.

I had a rad with high fpi and fans with very high static pressure on a fan controller (2 x San Ace 38mm fans). My waterblocks were high flow and my laing d5 was on max 5 speed.
 
Don't forget the ear plugs Greebo, they would have been in your list of well matched items :D

Nah. On 4v the fans just ticked over and you could hardly hear them and that was good enough for surfing etc. If I dropped the extreme overclock on the cpu I could even get away with passive for downloading overnight.

Up them slightly and they kept temps under check in games but still hardly audible.

However, I do admit to tunning them at 100% when benchmarking at 4.85Ghz and leaving the room while the benchmarks were carried out :D
