1080p h.264 playback on XPS M1530

Been doing some blu-ray rips recently and transferred to my laptop for later viewing. Surprised to find that it seems to be incapable of smooth 1080p h.264 playback.

Using WMP and ffdshow. Laptop is XPS M1530 with T8300, 4Gb RAM and 8600M GT GPU. All latest drivers. I would have thought that is easily powerful enough. Any ideas?

Try using VLC player you might have better results.

I've got the same laptop, near enough the same spec, and I've had no problem playing any 1080p videos I've come accross. I'd guess a bad codec or something?

If you're got a link to a certain 1080p video I can try it to check for you, as I've not got any with me at the moment.

download the k-lite mega codec pack. Includes pretty much every codec under the sun.

Specifically you've had no problems with h.264 1080p?
