The Ashes 2010-11: Australia v England ** spoilers **

I agree, England's bowling was excellent today, which makes Hussey and Haddin's achievement all the more impressive. Yes they enjoyed plenty of luck, but it was surely their discipline that kept the partnership alive. Hussey, in particular, chose his shots very well.

Oh definitely - as Warney was saying about Haddin vs. Prior, Prior came in, played a rash shot and was out first ball. It seems to be a wicket on which if you get in, it gets easier. 4 Australian batsmen made starts, 4 English batsmen did, but one side had batsmen that were able to make the most of it.

To keep the game alive Australia needs England all out before stumps tomorrow. If they're only 1-2 wickets down at tea, I reckon we'll be looking at a draw. The pitch is cracking, which could be good news for our bowlers.

If we're 7-8 wickets down by stumps we'll probably only be 100 ahead given how fast scoring has been, I can't see there being a draw!

Wow what a stand between Hussey and Haddin..absolutely shredded the England attack:eek:...but its a shame that again Hussey has to get them out of the pickle they were in at the beginning of their innings.

So far its been enjoyable...now waiting to see how England come back from being 221 runs down...i think this test is going towards the Aussies unless they really let England get on top...

I was watching about an hour or so last night and how Anderson didn't get them both is beyond me, it was nipping so much and the number of played-and-missed from the both was ridiculous.

As for our batting... well if Strauss bats for a long time then I think we'll be ok, but we can't build an innings around Cook again simply because he's nowhere near as good. The first session tonight is so important, we lose more than 1 wicket and I think it's game over.

We should be able to bat long enough to force a draw if all our guys perform as we know they can (Strauss, Colly, Bell, Trott are all capable on their day of batting for hours and hours).
Will they do it though? who knows.

Are you sure? England got all out within 77 overs in the first innings. To force a draw, they'd have to bat for at least four sessions at a fairly competitive strike rate, or 4.5-5 sessions at a more modest strike rate.

The key words in my sentence were:
"If our guys perform as we know they can"

Need the four i mentioned to hang around for a looong time. Cant see KP, Cook or the tail being suited to blocking out for hours.

Yeah, I suppose you could say that in an idealist world. However, the chances of all of them performing well are slim. They may well do, but there'll almost always be the amazing balls, the dodgy bounce and the bad umpire decisions, and if the batsman's lucky he'll stay in, if not he'll go.

You can deffo see why the Aussies 'collapsed' the way they did last night. Didn't work. These openers have to dig in. Be an important time for Strauss to get something as well.
