To SLI or not to SLI? (Currently 1 x GTX 260)

I'm currently running a single BFG GTX 260 and I'm looking to upgrade. But what I'm wondering is whether it'd be better to find a second cheap 260 (I'm under the impression the two cards have to be the same?) or is it better to ditch the old 260 and go for a single more powerful card?

Other info:
Intel i7 920
Gigabyte EX58-UD5
2 x 22" Monitors
Corsair HX 750W

Current budget = £200

If you buy a second-hand GTX 260 expect to pay ~£60-70. With two of these cards in SLI you will be seeing performance almost on-par with a GTX 295. Since the 295 gives an average framerate in most games at the same level as a GTX 480 - then you will have a pretty formidable graphics setup for not much extra money.

However you will still be using a DX10 card when DX11 is the current generation. However, few games really make use of it yet - and getting a DX11 card with this kind of power will cost a signifiant sum. Also, as it would be a dual card setup things like SLI profiles, microstutter and higher heat/noise would need to be considered.

i had to 280 gtx,s different makes and different clock speeds and they were fine but as many ppl say sli is not trouble free i had some niggles but it didnt put me off it wot res do you game at i play games at 1920 1200.

Personally hold off a bit longer till the next range of AMD cards hit the shelves. Should throw price changes all over.

Then get the best one you can afford!

Thank you very much for all the replies. Lots of conflicting choices too :p Any ideas when the new range will be hitting the shelves? DX11 doesn't worry me too much, as you say not many games use it at the moment, but that's not to say they won't in the future of course. I'll keep an eye on prices for now, if I see a cracking deal, I'll get on it.

Sell your GTX 260, Use money from GTX260+£200 Budget to get a GTX 470. Or wait get a bit more money and get a pair of GTX 460's Overclock. You will way beat a GTX 480 By 150%.

with a £200 budget and strong PSU. if you must get something right now, I'd get the GTX 470.

If you can wait, I'd at the very least wait 2 weeks to see what effect the AMD gpu's have on the market.
