In case you haven't noticed, winter is here driving condition are getting worse and threads are already popping up on owner's club about members stacking their cars due to black ice.

Just wondering how many people here have "hung their keys up" for the winter and won't be venturing outside with their Pride and joy again until the temperature gets on the right side of the (-) mark?

While I haven't found driving conditions too bad, but is something that has crossed my a few times.

One of the advantages (Not that there are many) of living down here is that although its cold (-2 at the moment) the only effect it has had on my driving is having to de-ice the car.

So no, not planning to hang up my keys as driving is no different to usual. Infact I'm off to the other end of the country next month :D

I love driving on cold roads :D

Means that with summerish tyres on I get the backend out lots, and with a bit of snow/ice makes junctions soo much fun!

What a bizarre concept. No, I will continue to drive every day as I always do. Do people really have that little faith in their own abilities?

I've been forced to by a handbrake seizing/freezing up, apparently an old knackered handbrake cable can freeze up completely, so I can't drive until its above 0, and do not fancy lying in the snow underneath a car to try and fix it.

one of my doors froze up today. it turns out it isnt that easy to slide across from the pax seat in an E46, especially in an overcoat.

i wont be hanging my keys up though - i have to go to work!

It's cold Lopez, if you dont have a 4wd or winter tyres you will almost certainly perish.
Silly me, what was I thinking? I'll be on the bus tomorrow now you have pointed that out!

Most annoying thing about the Manta in winter is the windscreen freezes on the inside.
The handbrake on Kate's Golf freezes on too so she just parks it in gear instead.

Swapped to my non Yokohama tyres and the mini is a beast in the snow. With the yokos it couldn't make it up a flat road with an inch and a half of snow :D

My car will sit on the drive for the moment (its blocked in by a couple of feet of snow anyway). In my experience with such conditions and my inherent lack of ability, it's probably safer where it is.

The Focus has some winter tyres coming (yes it's true) so that will be my daily hack.

Nice red polo upside down whilst on the way home from the GFs tonight. Does it make me want to hang the keys up? No, I'm not a wuss.

-9c here too.

When we got in the car this morning, my wife told me that I'd better drive, as she "drives too fast for the frost".

I get the train to work all week. She uses the car. I only drive evenings and weekends.

:/

I did idly check PH & autotrader earlier today for the viability of getting a cheap Cherokee/4x4.
And a folding shovel to go in the boot of the car.
But hanging up the keys - nope.

Really annoying trying to get into a frozen car, my 330ci has to thaw itself before i can get in. The doors are stuck, the windows are stuck and the inside of the car is beyond freezing. So ive parked it up and now exclusively driving the a5
